This role is part of the Europe Finance Leadership Team within Flight Centre (UK) Limited, a subsidiary of Flight Centre Travel Group Limited (FCTG), and also supports the Global Tax Team based in Brisbane, Australia. The scope of this role is broad, focusing on managing tax compliance, risk management, and strategy for FCTG group companies and branches across Europe, Middle East & Africa (FCTG EMEA): UK, Ireland, The Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Germany, France, Switzerland, Spain, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa.
The Senior EMEA Tax Manager will be supported by local finance resources, the EMEA Tax Manager, and South Africa Tax Managers for tax compliance. This role maintains functional ownership of all EMEA Tax areas and manages relationships with UK’s HMRC and other tax authorities in Europe and the Middle East. It will also have a strategic focus on proactive risk management, advising on tax issues, training, system and process improvements, policy and legislative changes, and pursuing tax opportunities.
Travel will be required for internal conferences, events in London, and ad hoc visits to FCTG EMEA offices. As a member of the European Finance Leadership team, you will share responsibility for shaping and directing the wider Finance Function.
Pre-requisite Experience
- ACA or CTA qualified with at least 8 years post-qualified experience in an in-house corporate or indirect tax role or reputable professional services firm.
- European or International Tax experience, including VAT systems, is essential.
- Travel industry experience is advantageous.
Knowledge and Skills
- Proven tax technical proficiency, able to research and apply legislation and case law.
- Experience managing tax audits to completion.
- Commercial awareness, pragmatic problem-solving, and customer focus, including supporting sales and account management teams with tax queries.
- Strong initiative, interpersonal, communication, analytical, leadership, organizational, and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and PowerBi, with data analytics experience highly favorable.
- Ability to own projects, work collaboratively, and see projects through to completion.
- Attention to detail and ability to travel for meetings and conferences.
