About the role
As a Staff Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of our Platform Services organisation. Operating as part of the Strategic Leadership Team, you’ll provide deep technical leadership across our three stream-aligned squads—Customer Profile & Configuration, Trip Services & Booking Management, and AgentPort & Traveller Services.
This is an influence-driven role, not a management position. You’ll partner with Tech Leads as peers, helping squads achieve autonomy while ensuring our platform remains coherent, scalable, and technically excellent.
You will:
- Drive architectural coherence, collaborating with Tech Leads on cross-squad decisions and ensuring systems integrate seamlessly.
- Build technical capability across teams by mentoring, facilitating best practices, and enabling squads to solve architectural challenges independently.
- Lead complex cross-domain problem solving, working side-by-side with Tech Leads and the Strategic Leadership Team to guide technical strategy and resolve multi-squad challenges.
- Contribute to technology strategy, influencing decisions on frameworks, platforms, and emerging technologies.
- Foster a strong engineering culture through documentation, knowledge sharing, workshops, and partnership across squads.
Your success will be measured by the reduction of integration issues, alignment of technology choices, improved squad autonomy, and the trust and impact you build across the organisation.
About you
You are an experienced engineer with a passion for technical leadership, architectural thinking, and building capability in others. You thrive in environments where influence, collaboration, and facilitation matter more than authority.
You’ll bring:
- Technical Excellence: Deep experience across multiple technology domains—.NET and Ruby (essential); Elixir and Java (nice to have).
- The ability to understand and shape system-level architecture.
- A strong track record of solving complex technical challenges.
- Curiosity for emerging technologies and industry trends.
Influence Without Authority: You guide through expertise, not hierarchy. Skilled at facilitating discussions, building alignment, and navigating ambiguity. Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences. A genuine appreciation for diverse perspectives.
