We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist to join our dynamic team at Northampton General Hospital. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a supportive and innovative clinical environment, delivering high-quality eye care services to our diverse patient population. As a Consultant Ophthalmologist, you will play a crucial role in providing expert surgical and medical care, contributing to our commitment to excellence in patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive ophthalmic care, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of eye conditions.
- Perform a range of ophthalmic surgical procedures to the highest clinical standards.
- Participate in on-call rotas and provide emergency ophthalmic care as required.
- Engage in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care plans and treatment options.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, including registrars and SHOs.
- Participate in clinical governance activities, including audit, research, and quality improvement projects.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
- Engage in continuing professional development to stay abreast of advancements in ophthalmology.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a license to practice.
- Completion of higher specialist training in Ophthalmology.
- Possession of CCT (Certificate of Completion of Training) or equivalent in Ophthalmology.
- Experience in performing a wide range of ophthalmic surgical procedures.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to maintaining clinical skills.
Desirable Skills:
- Sub-speciality interest or experience in areas such as cataract surgery, vitreoretinal surgery, or oculoplastics.
- Experience in teaching and training junior doctors and medical students.
- Involvement in research or clinical audit within ophthalmology.
- Leadership experience within a clinical setting.
Compliance Requirements:
- Up-to-date NHS mandatory training.
- Adherence to GMC guidelines and professional standards.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and data protection regulations.
