About the Role
Northampton General Hospital is recruiting a Senior Hand Therapist to join its specialist Hand Therapy Service on a fixed-term maternity cover basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist with a passion for Hand Therapy to work within a highly regarded multidisciplinary team supporting patients with complex hand injuries and conditions across Trauma & Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery services.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a specialist Hand Therapy caseload from assessment through to discharge
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment programmes for patients with a wide range of hand conditions and injuries
- Design, fabricate, and fit static and dynamic splints
- Deliver evidence-based rehabilitation and exercise programmes
- Work closely with consultants, therapists, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary colleagues
- Support patient education and self-management strategies
- Supervise junior therapists, therapy support staff, and students
- Participate in service development, audit, governance, and quality improvement projects
- Contribute to departmental training and professional development activities
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Degree in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
- HCPC Registration
- Experience managing Hand Therapy patients within Trauma & Orthopaedics and/or Plastic Surgery
- Experience of splinting across a wide range of clinical conditions
- Knowledge of upper limb anatomy, conditions, and surgical procedures relevant to Hand Therapy
- Evidence of ongoing CPD and professional development
Desirable
- Previous NHS Hand Therapy experience at Band 6 level
- BAHT Level 1 Training
- Membership of BAHT, RCOT, or CSP
- Experience supervising junior staff and students
- Practice Educator qualification
- Experience fabricating dynamic splints
