We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist to join our dynamic team at Northampton General Hospital. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a thriving gastroenterology department, providing expert care to patients with gastrointestinal disorders. As a Consultant Gastroenterologist, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality clinical services, participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, and contributing to the ongoing development of gastroenterology services within the Trust.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive gastroenterology services, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with gastrointestinal disorders.
  • Perform endoscopic procedures, such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and ERCP, to a high standard.
  • Participate in on-call rotas, providing emergency gastroenterology care as required.
  • Engage in clinical governance activities, including audit, research, and quality improvement projects.
  • Contribute to the training and development of junior doctors, medical students, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Attend and actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical governance meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in accordance with Trust policies.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a license to practice.
  • Completion of higher specialist training in Gastroenterology.
  • CCST or CCT in Gastroenterology or equivalent.
  • Experience in performing endoscopic procedures to a high standard.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to continuing medical education.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in advanced endoscopic techniques, such as endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and capsule endoscopy.
  • Interest or experience in specific areas of gastroenterology, such as inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, or functional gastrointestinal disorders.
  • Experience in clinical research and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Leadership experience or participation in clinical governance activities.

Compliance Requirements:

  • Up-to-date DBS check.
  • Completion of NHS mandatory training, including safeguarding, infection control, and equality and diversity training.
  • Adherence to GMC guidance and professional standards.
