We are recruiting a Consultant Psychiatrist to join the CAMHS Emotional Disorders Team (EDT) within Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) on a maternity leave cover basis. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a highly specialist and well-established multidisciplinary CAMHS service alongside a substantive Consultant Psychiatrist, supporting children and young people presenting with a range of emotional disorders including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety disorders
  • OCD
  • PTSD
  • Related emotional and mental health presentations

The Emotional Disorders Team provides specialist assessment and treatment planning for children and young people following CAMHS triage, working within evidence-based pathways and a collaborative MDT structure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior psychiatric leadership within the Emotional Disorders Team alongside the substantive Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Conduct:
    • Initial psychiatric assessments
    • Risk assessments
    • Diagnostic assessments
    • Treatment planning and reviews
  • Initiate and monitor pharmacological treatments where appropriate
  • Support and contribute to weekly MDT and post-assessment meetings
  • Provide clinical leadership and support to the wider MDT
  • Contribute to evidence-based care planning and service development
  • Work collaboratively with families, schools, community services, and external agencies
  • Support trainee doctors and MDT colleagues within the service

About the Team

The Emotional Disorders Team currently includes:

  • Consultant Child Psychiatrists
  • Specialty Trainees
  • Core Trainees
  • Specialty Doctors
  • Family Therapists
  • Psychologists
  • Child Psychotherapists
  • Clinical Nurse Specialists
  • Systemic Practitioners
  • Dedicated Administrative Support

The team manages an active caseload of approximately 200 patients, with each young person allocated a case manager within the MDT.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (or within 6 months of CCT)
  • Significant CAMHS experience, including emotional disorders presentations
  • Experience conducting psychiatric and risk assessments in children and young people
  • Strong multidisciplinary working and leadership skills

Desirable

  • Experience within specialist CAMHS emotional disorders services
  • Experience supporting trainees and junior staff
  • Interest in service development and evidence-based practice
