Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join its Outstanding-rated CAMHS Inpatient Service based at Pebble Lodge in Westbourne.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded 10-bedded General Adolescent Unit providing specialist inpatient mental health care for young people aged 12–18 years. The successful candidate will work alongside an established substantive Consultant Psychiatrist and experienced multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality assessment, treatment, and recovery-focused care.
The post also offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of a new 8-bedded CAMHS Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), scheduled to open in 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide consultant leadership within the CAMHS inpatient service
- Undertake psychiatric assessments, risk assessments, diagnosis, and treatment planning
- Act as Responsible Clinician for young people admitted to the unit
- Work collaboratively with community CAMHS, crisis services, and regional provider collaborative partners
- Participate in Mental Health Act work, tribunal reports, and CPA reviews
- Support service development and the future implementation of the CAMHS PICU
- Supervise and support junior doctors and multidisciplinary colleagues
- Contribute to teaching, governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
What We’re Looking For:
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise
- MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (or within 6 months of CCT)
- Section 12 Approval and Approved Clinician status
- Strong experience working within multidisciplinary CAMHS environments
- Excellent leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
