About the Role
We are recruiting a compassionate and experienced Senior Mental Health Practitioner to join the CNWL’s Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services. This role forms part of the national Transforming Children and Young People’s Mental Health Programme (Green Paper initiative), supporting children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties within educational settings.
You will work collaboratively with schools, colleges, families, and multidisciplinary professionals to provide evidence-based interventions and promote a whole-school approach to emotional wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver evidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing:
- Anxiety
- Low mood
- Behavioural difficulties
- Carry out mental health assessments, risk assessments, care planning, and reviews
- Hold a caseload of children and young people with mild to moderate mental health presentations
- Provide individual and group interventions in line with CYP-IAPT principles
- Support schools and colleges to develop and embed a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing
- Offer consultation, guidance, and support to education staff and external professionals
- Provide supervision and support to Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) and trainee staff
- Support safeguarding processes and escalate concerns appropriately
- Contribute to service development, audits, outcome monitoring, and quality improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and outcome measures
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Relevant professional qualification in:
- Mental Health Nursing
- Social Work
- Occupational Therapy
- Art, Drama, or Music Therapy
- Learning Disability Nursing
- OR substantial post-qualified experience as a CWP or EMHP
- Registration with an appropriate professional body
- Extensive experience working within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
- Experience delivering evidence-based CBT interventions for mild to moderate mental health difficulties
- Strong safeguarding knowledge and experience
- Excellent communication, assessment, and organisational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across education and healthcare settings
Desirable
- Formal CBT or CYP-IAPT training
- Experience delivering psychoeducational workshops or therapy groups
- Experience working directly with schools and educational settings
- Experience providing clinical supervision or training to staff
