We connect passionate Sports Mentors with local educational provisions dedicated to high-quality, personalized support. This setting supports young people aged 11β16 (primarily Years 9β11) who thrive outside of mainstream education. Many learners access this provision on reduced timetables due to Autism (ASC), ADHD, and complex social-emotional needs.
If you are an adaptable, active, and approachable leader who values relationship-building over rigid processes, this supportive environment offers the perfect space to re-engage students through sports mentoring, boxing-based engagement, and physical activity.
We are seeking a Sports & Engagement Mentor who possesses a genuine passion for supporting young people with SEND. For this role, your energy, coaching presence, and ability to build trusting relationships through physical activity are considered just as vital as formal teaching credentials.
- A strong background or qualification in sports coaching, personal training, boxing instruction, or physical education.
- Proven ability to use sport and exercise as a tool for behaviour management, mentoring, and emotional regulation.
- Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with disengaged, vulnerable, or highly energetic youth.
- Confidence working with students displaying a range of additional needs (specifically Autism and ADHD).
- A valid right to work in the UK and an Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
- Experience working within an alternative provision, PRU, youth work, or a pastoral support background.
- Experience running targeted, interest-led sports workshops or boxing-based mentoring programmes.
- An understanding of trauma-informed and relationship-led approaches in a physical activity setting.
- A relevant coaching badge, fitness qualification, or teaching qualification (PGCE/QTS) is a plus.
Once your application is received, the provision in the Didcot area can review your profile directly for upcoming term starts, flexible shift placements, or interviews.
