We’re recruiting a Locum Consultant in Stroke Medicine for a 12-month post (maternity leave cover) based in Swindon. You’ll join a friendly, well-established team of 10 senior clinicians within a combined neurology/stroke service, with real scope to help shape and improve stroke care.
The role We’re looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Stroke Consultant with a passion for high-quality, evidence-based stroke care and service improvement. You’ll contribute to:
- Hyperacute/acute stroke care, including thrombolysis
- Rapid access TIA clinics
- HASU ward rounds and outpatient stroke clinics
- Teaching, training, and supervision of junior colleagues
- Audit/QI and clinical governance, with opportunities to develop subspecialty interests
The service includes an 18-bed acute stroke unit (including 4 HASU beds) plus a 15-bed stroke rehabilitation ward, with approximately 600 acute stroke patients per year. There is a strong improvement journey, achieving consistent SSNAP Level B performance after significant service investment and an active interest in stroke research.
Job plan & on-call: 10 PAs total (indicatively 8.5 DCC / 1.5 SPA) with potential to participate in a regional out-of-hours thrombolysis rota (remote).

Essential requirements: Full GMC registration, CCT (or equivalent) in a relevant specialty or within 6 months of CCT at interview, trained/experienced across all aspects of stroke medicine, with ability to lead MDT care and contribute to education and service development.
