We are working in partnership with University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN) to recruit a Consultant in Upper Gastro-Intestinal Surgery to join a dynamic and forward-thinking General Surgery team at Kettering General Hospital.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join an established surgical team delivering high-quality benign Upper GI services across North Northamptonshire.
- Deliver comprehensive care across Upper GI conditions, including GORD, biliary disease, and complex benign pathology
- Support diagnostics and management of OG and HPB conditions
- Contribute to endoscopy and ERCP services (desirable but not essential)
- Participate in the general surgical emergency rota (1:8)
- Work collaboratively across MDTs and regional specialist centres
- Play a key role in service development, innovation, and pathway improvement
You will work alongside experienced consultants across colorectal, endocrine, and general surgery, within a supportive and collaborative environment.
The Service
Kettering General Hospital is a busy District General Hospital serving a population of ~360,000, offering:
- Modern surgical facilities including day case units, endoscopy suites, and ICU
- Strong links with University Hospitals of Leicester for specialist services
- A growing infrastructure with plans for a new hospital development (HIP2 project)
- Access to a wide MDT network supporting UGI, HPB, and cancer pathways
Essential Requirements
- Full GMC registration with Licence to Practise
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (General Surgery) or within 6 months of CCT
- Extensive experience in General Surgery and Upper GI Surgery
- Ability to manage UGI emergencies and complex surgical patients
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams
Desirable
- JAG accreditation in UGI endoscopy / ERCP
- Experience in laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery, Heller myotomy, or POEM
- Interest in teaching, audit, and research
- Experience in service development and leadership
