To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Head of Electrical Safety (Authorised Person), located in Kendal OR Blackburn, UK.

Reporting to the Global EHS Director, the Head of Electrical Safety will be part of an excellent Global EHS team with the responsibility for providing the organisation with the legally required level of electrical competence to ensure electrical safety, compliance, investigation capability and technical governance across all operations. You will act as the formally appointed Electrical Authorised Person, responsible for ensuring the safe operation, isolation, and control of electrical systems across Critical Power, and for maintaining full compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations (EAWR 1989) and internal Electrical Safety Rules. This role is safety critical with direct accountability for electrical risk control, permit to work authorisation and safe system of work implementation.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Act as the Authorized Person for LV/HV systems for all critical power activities ensuring compliance with EAWR 1989, BS7671 and company electrical safety rules
  • Maintain and enforce safe systems of work
  • Issue, control and close Permit to Work and Isolation Control
  • Authorize switching operations and isolation and energization activities
  • Review and approve Risk Assessment & Method Statements (RAMS)
  • Ensure all electrical systems are inspected, maintained and tested
  • Lead investigations into electrical incidents, near misses and HiPos, implementing corrective and preventative actions
  • Manage contractors ensuring they are competent and authorised and work in line with RAMS and permits
  • Supervise high risk activities and stop unsafe work immediately, rejecting RAMS or permits and refusing energisation when required
  • Provide training and support development of competent persons and wider electrical teams
  • Deliver briefings and toolbox talks on electrical safety, permit to work and isolation procedures
  • Identify and implement improvements to electrical safety systems and risk controls

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:

  • NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation (or equivalent) and degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
  • 18th Edition Wiring regs (BS7671)
  • Formal Authorized Person (AP) appointment in the past working with at least LV systems, experience with HV is advantageous
  • Experience with ISO19011 and hold audit qualifications
  • Strong understanding of EAWR requirements
  • Minimum 5 years Electrical experience and minimum 2 years in AP role
  • Experience in manufacturing, ideally critical power or industrial environments
  • Extensive experience working with a diverse range of products, including bespoke items with varying deadlines
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate and influence positive outcomes
  • Strong understanding of electrical risk and hazard control
  • High personal accountability and safety leadership
  • Ability to challenge unsafe behaviours
  • Knowledgeable of Anord Mardix Electrical products, services and competitors (Preferred)
