To inspect, service, maintain and repair Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) and associated trailers to ensure they are safe, roadworthy, and compliant with legal and company standards.

Salary: Depends on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs on HGVs and trailers.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
  • Conduct vehicle inspections in line with DVSA standards.
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Complete all job cards, service sheets, and compliance documentation accurately.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance to minimise vehicle downtime.
  • Respond to breakdowns (workshop and roadside if required).
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Adhere to health & safety policies and workshop procedures.
  • Work efficiently to meet deadlines and operational requirements.

Skills & Experience Required:

Essential:

  • Proven experience as an HGV Fitter/Technician.
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, braking systems, suspension, and electrics.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good understanding of DVSA regulations.
  • Full UK driving licence (Class 1 or 2 desirable).

Desirable:

  • Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent).
  • IRTEC accreditation.
  • Tachograph and LOLER inspection knowledge.
  • Welding/fabrication experience.

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good problem-solving ability.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Flexible approach to working hours (shift work/overtime where required).

Working Conditions:

  • Workshop-based with occasional roadside call-outs.
