About our client

Our client is an award‑winning, architect‑led design and build practice specialising in high‑quality private residential renovations and home transformations across North and East London. As a RIBA Chartered Practice and active contributor to the Federation of Master Builders, the company combines architectural design excellence with construction delivery - challenging the traditional separation between design and build.

You will spend most of your time on site, creating exceptional homes for private clients across London whilst maintaining quality standards and helping keep projects running safely, efficiently and on programme. You will work under the working foreman, whilst also being in communication with in-house Architects and Site Managers while remaining actively involved in the build.

For this role we are looking for a skilled carpenter ideally with bricklaying experience. This role also comes with a very clear progression path leading to Working Foreman to Site Manager to Site Team Leader and finally to Director. This role will really suit someone who is looking to progress their career.

Key duties

  • General building work across refurbishments, extensions and retrofit projects, including some labour intensive activities
  • First and second fix carpentry tasks
  • Site setup, protection works, temporary works support, loading, clearing and end‑of‑day organisation
  • Measuring, cutting, fixing, forming, making good and other practical site tasks
  • Supporting brickwork, blockwork, plasterboarding, insulation, flooring, decorating preparation and snagging
  • Reading drawings, specifications and marked‑up instructions with support from the Working Foreman
  • Keeping tools, materials, access routes and working areas clean, safe and organised
  • Taking site photos every day, and logging those, as well as your timesheets, and giving simple progress updates when asked
  • Move between our building sites to support fellow teams when needed

Requirements

  • At least 3 to 5 years' UK residential construction experience
  • A practical trade background, ideally carpentry or bricklaying led
  • Experience on London home extensions, loft conversions, refurbishments or retrofit projects
  • Basic brickwork, blockwork, plasterboarding, tiling, decorating or general making‑good skills
  • Comfortable working across several building tasks on domestic refurbishment and extension sites
  • Strong ability in first fix and standards - able to carry out by yourself, and good basic understanding of second fix, able to do working with others skilled in this area
  • CSCS Card and Full UK license
  • NVQ, City and Guilds or equivalent trade qualification

Benefits

  • 34 days annual leave
  • 4% employer pension contribution
  • Ongoing training and development

If you're an experienced residential construction professional looking for genuine career progression within a high‑quality design and build practice, we'd love to hear from you.
