Kent / South East – Office & Site Based
We’re working with a specialist engineering contractor operating in a niche industrial space, delivering machinery installations, removals and factory relocation projects across the South East. They’re looking to bring in a mechanically minded, client-facing engineer who can understand how a job comes apart, how it goes back together, and how to cost and plan it properly – without needing to be a fully formed industrial Project Engineer from day one. This role suits someone with a mechanical engineering background and a good engineering brain, who’s comfortable dealing with customers and wants to build experience in heavy industrial projects over time.
The Role
- Visiting client sites to understand scope, access and constraints
- Looking at machinery and equipment at a practical level (how it breaks down, lifts out, reinstalls)
- Building up job costings – labour, plant, cranes, materials and time
- Working closely with experienced engineers and suppliers to plan delivery
- Acting as a professional, likeable point of contact for customers
- Supporting projects through delivery as your industrial exposure grows
You don’t need to know every nut and bolt on day one – you do need to think logically, ask the right questions and be comfortable taking responsibility.
What They’re Looking For
This role is about mindset and potential, not ticking every box. They’re looking for someone who:
- Has a mechanical engineering background (degree or equivalent experience)
- Has strong engineering common sense and logical thinking
- Is articulate, presentable and confident with customers
- Can look at a job and break it down into time, people, plant and cost
- Is happy being a mix of office-based and site-based
- Wants to be trained into machinery moves, heavy lifting and industrial projects
Backgrounds that could work well include:
- Application / estimating / proposal engineers
- Mechanical engineers in client-facing or support roles
- Engineers who’ve stepped away from the tools and want progression
- Technically minded sales engineers who don’t want commission pressure
If you meet the above criteria, please apply now for immediate consideration.
