Job Summary
This role partners closely with Sales, Operations, and cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for new product development and enhancements to existing products. The role is responsible for leading product development and improvement projects from concept through to commercial launch, ensuring alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and customer needs, while driving project delivery, cross-functional collaboration, and stakeholder engagement.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and develop the Product Development team, ensuring regular performance reviews are conducted and corrective actions implemented where required.
- Establish, embed, and uphold clear standards of performance across all product development activities.
- Provide clear direction, coaching, mentoring, and targeted support to enable the team to meet expected standards, with particular focus on:
- Preparation of reports and documentation in line with ISO 13485 requirements
- Effective prioritisation of work
- Strong cross-functional collaboration across FMP
- Setting, managing, and communicating stakeholder expectations
- Integrated product development schedules
- Product specifications
- Product cost models
- Risk analyses
- Resource plans
- Product development budgets
- Compliance with internal processes, external standards, and regulatory requirements
- Effective coordination and approval of project business cases
- Clear development and launch timelines, with proactive risk management
- Development budgets are created, managed, and adhered to
- The voice of the customer (VOC) is embedded throughout the product lifecycle
- Effective cross-functional collaboration, problem-solving, and conflict resolution
- Constructive challenge to teams to ensure optimal performance, prevent scope creep, and keep projects on track, with swift corrective action where required
- Stakeholder expectations are clearly set and actively managed
- Accurate and up-to-date project documentation is maintained throughout the project lifecycle
- Regular stakeholder progress update meetings are led
- Customer-facing and internal project progress reports are prepared and communicated
Personal Specifications
- Proven experience in the medical devices sector in a commercial role, or experience within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience in leading, managing, and developing a team of product development scientists.
- Technical qualification in chemistry, engineering, materials science, or a related discipline.
- Experience in conducting face-to-face meetings with customers and stakeholders.
- Strong track record of delivering product development projects on time and within budget.
- Sales and/or marketing experience in a technical or related industry is advantageous.
- Experience in product development and/or product management within a technical industry.
- Working knowledge of industry standards and procedures relevant to medical devices is desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of the customer base and within FMP/CliniMed.
- Flexible and adaptable, able to reprioritise tasks in response to changing demands.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and positive in approach.
- Proficient in using standard computer applications and tools.
