Medical Law Service part of Fletchers Solicitors group have a fantastic opportunity to join our growing Team.
Purpose of role: To provide an assessment on the merits of a potential Birth & Pregnancy case depending on the initial information provided, advising on which medical records and additional documents are required to further determine the case prospects. To complete a detailed review of the records, pagination and chronology and on occasion give opinion on the merits of the case.

Main Responsibilities for the role:
- Reviewing medical (mother and baby / child) records and any other documentation relevant to the case
- Sorting and categorisation of medical records
- Preparation of Opinion of Merit (OOM) and chronology to assist the legal team with furthering their investigations and assessment of prospects
- Preparing both light/selective focussed, date ranged, full and updated paginations in paperless format, utilising suitable IT programmes, including working with evolving AI tools
- Undertaking necessary research in order to understand the medico-legal elements of the case, including any relevant professional guidelines
- Good understanding of GDPR to enable identification of such issues within the medical records
- Experience led progression towards completing Risk Assessment 1s / initial case vetting
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ post-qualification clinical experience in midwifery
- Basic understanding of medical records
- Ability to prepare work to a high level of accuracy
- Excellent communication skills and ability to disseminate information with positivity, attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work within a team both remotely and in person
- Be highly motivated, organised, and proactive
- Ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining high standards
- Working knowledge of Audits and interpreting the findings to improve/maintain practice
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience:
- Familiarity with Microsoft and other software tools for example Adobe
