An independent firm of Chartered Accountants is looking to recruit a Client Accountant for a newly created role in their Surrey office. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with a diverse and growing client base, including businesses in Surrey, London, and international firms. The firm is known for its professional yet flexible and respectful working environment, prioritising staff welfare.
The Role
Working closely with the senior management team, you will manage a varied portfolio of both locally based clients and those based internationally with a UK subsidiary. Ideally, you will have strong accounting skills and a desire to add some audit work to your portfolio (up to 30%).
- Preparing statutory accounts and quarterly management accounts.
- Conducting client audits, from planning through to completion, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
- Handling ad hoc project work and assisting clients with their evolving needs.
- Preparing quarterly VAT returns (bookkeeping managed by other team members).
- Collaborating with the tax team, particularly on corporate and private tax returns.
About You
This role is ideal for a client-focused accountant with recent experience in accounts preparation and compliance, and a willingness to perform some audit work. The ideal candidate will have:
- A strong foundation in FRS 102 with knowledge of UK GAAP; exposure to IFRS is a plus.
- ACA or ACCA qualification, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with cloud-based accounting software, like Xero, and the ability to adapt to new technology.
- Experience preparing year-end statutory accounts and managing a small client portfolio.
- Prior experience in an accountancy practice, with audit familiarity.
