The Head of People is responsible for devising and delivering HR strategies to support achievement of business objectives, including all aspects of employee lifecycle management, human capital reporting and supporting the leadership in the implementation of best practice HR. The role is part of the UK leadership team. Experience working with unions is essential.
Main accountabilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop, lead and facilitate the People Plan for the business ensuring that it is aligned to the Operational Business Plans, UK HR strategy and overall company people agenda.
- Actively manage corporate and local initiatives and projects on a broad range of HR related subjects.
- Recommend and direct the development of policy and procedure on all aspects of HR management and practice that reflects legislation and other regulations, current best practice of HR management.
- Assist in the preparation of UK Employment Tribunal Cases, representing the company where appropriate.
- Facilitate constructive dialogue and a professional working relationship with trade unions and other employee representatives.
- Lead negotiations with trade unions and other employee representatives in conjunction with operational managers on pay, terms and conditions, procedural and other matters.
- Contribute to/conduct effective employee transfers, referring to current legislation with regard to TUPE.
- Apply best practice to help appraise, coach and develop the operational management team, provide new opportunities and challenges to increase knowledge and broaden experience.
- Contribute to business planning and policy development with particular regard for the personnel aspects.
- Contribute to the development and roll-out of global HR programmes, initiatives, and systems.
- A particular early focus will be to drive HR initiatives to support the plan to transform the business, support it in meeting its objectives and help develop the HR function into a true business partner.
- Leading, motivating and developing the HR team to achieve agreed targets with a strong focus on collaboration, culture and people development.
People Culture
- Measure and assist with the development of an employee-oriented company culture with emphasis on quality, continuous improvement, and high performance.
- Further develop a culture of performance management and drive capability at all levels in the organisation.
People Development
- Develop HR capability across the HR team to enable a true business partnering HR function.
- Create and achieve plans for leadership development, succession planning, career development, performance management and appraisal processes helping to drive the right culture in these.
Data Reporting and Analytics
- Produce and analyse statistical data and reports (using systems where available) to identify and determine causes of people problems and develop recommendations for improvement of people policies and practices.
Compliance Matters
- Ensure managers are aware of the impact of employment law legislation and consequences of non-compliance.
- Ensure compliance with People Pillar and corporate governance standards.
- Coordinate employee/industrial relations strategies around matters such as employee engagement, relationships with recognised trade unions and other bodies representing employees, and pay.
