Our business was created to improve the safety of drivers and vehicles by providing the tools and support that promote professional fleet management.
Our business is all about serving others, focused on the common good and we get there through consideration and respect for each other.
Our customers trust us to deliver excellence.
They trust us because they experience outstanding software provided by people who are dependable and prepared to go that extra mile.
This is a growing business, and we need people who are open to new opportunities and experiences, ready to learn new things and help drive the business forward.
The enthusiasm, honesty, and openness here is infectious and it helps us hit problems head on and be determined to find the best solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Our website is our most important marketing channel.
Around half of our pipeline starts with organic search, and we want someone to own that channel properly: the code, the performance, the technical SEO, and be part of the decisions about where it goes next.
The first big job is a full redesign and rebuild.
You’ll lead the technical side of that decision, including whether we rebuild on Word Press or move to something else, and you’ll be the technical brain in the room when we work with an external design agency to get it built.
Once it’s live, the site is yours: you’ll run it, improve it, and work with the wider marketing team to make it an even bigger source of business than it already is.
As the lead individual in this area, you will have real influence over how the site works, what we build next, and what’s possible.
- What you’ll do
- Lead the evaluation of our next website stack.
We lean towards Word Press, but we want that decision made properly by someone who has been through it before and can argue the options.
- Act as our in-house technical lead through the redesign and rebuild, working alongside an external agency and holding them to a high standard
- Own the site day to day before and after launch: builds, landing pages, integrations, performance, fixes and improvements
- Work with our senior designer to bring designs to life intelligently, and show the team what’s possible rather than just what’s easy
- Work with our SEO lead on technical SEO, so the things that make us visible get implemented
- Keep the site fast and secure.
- Lend our lead designer a hand from time to time, adapting or producing digital assets when workloads peak.
- What we need
- 7+ years of hands-on web development experience, with a portfolio that shows it
- Deep Word Press expertise at code level: custom themes and plugins built from scratch, custom post types, Advanced Custom Fields, and clean, well-documented, reusable code
- Genuine working experience of at least one modern alternative, ideally including a re-platforming decision you led or heavily influenced
- Performance discipline: lean builds, no bloated code, measured against Core Web Vitals rather than just aware of them
- Solid technical SEO knowledge, including schema markup, structured data and site architecture, plus an understanding of how AI search tools like Chat GPT and Claude surface and interpret web content
- Design literacy: you work closely with a designer, take a design from Figma to a finished build without losing what made it good, and extend a design system sensibly on your own
- What would make you exceptional
Not deal breakers, but skills that would be put to good use
- Hub
Spot: managing the connection between our website and Hub Spot, building integrations and troubleshooting within its ecosystem
- HTML email development: hand-coding responsive emails for greater control and quality
- Enough design tooling ability (Figma, Adobe Creative Suite) to adapt existing creative assets when needed
- Ad Tech exposure: tag management, tracking pixels and paid digital infrastructure
- Required Skills
- 3+ years of professional software development experience, ideally including direct client or stakeholder-facing work.
- Confident working independently on a Kanban basis, managing your own priorities without daily squad ceremonies.
- Comfortable scoping and estimating work directly with clients, translating requirements into a technical solution without close supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to explain technical constraints and trade-offs to non-technical clients.
- Good knowledge of Agile/Kanban methodologies and version control (Git, Git Hub).
- Preferred Skills
- Experience working in a professional services, consultancy, or bespoke solutions environment.
- Familiarity with Fleet Check’s core product and customer base.
- Experience with API integrations (RESTful services).
- Rewards and additional information
- Base salary will be in the region of £45-50k pa,

How to prepare for a job interview at FleetCheck
✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills
For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.
✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks
Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If FleetCheck uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.
✨Showcase Your Projects
Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.
✨Prepare for Behavioural Questions
While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
