The Saw Operator is responsible for the set up and operation of wood saw and notching equipment. The Saw Operator cuts and notches product to specified dimensions. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Ensure accuracy in cutting, maintaining consistent quality and dimensions according to specifications.
- Adjust equipment settings as necessary.
- Safely operate sawmill machinery, including Verti-cut saws, circular saws, and other cutting equipment, to cut boards into specified sizes and dimensions.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure the safe operation of all equipment.
- Identify and report any potential hazards in the work area.
- Maintain pre and post equipment inspections.
- Troubleshoot equipment as needed.
- Assist with Forklift Driving/Material handling.
- Work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while ensuring accuracy and quality.
- Gather all materials needed for daily work orders.
- Assist in conducting inventory counts.
- Maintain clean work area.
- Maintain accurate records of production, including the number of logs processed, the volume of lumber produced, and any issues encountered during operation.
- Work closely with other sawmill operators, supervisors, and maintenance personnel to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (preferred)
- Prior Manufacturing experience (preferred)
- Prior Woodworking experience (preferred)
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Ability to follow verbal instructions
- Ability to read color labels and identify products
- Ability to read tape measure
- Ability to use saw and other powered equipment
- Basic math skills
- Forklift training
- Ability to count
