The Principal Cloud Infrastructure Engineer leads on the creation and maintenance of the IT/OT Cloud technical delivery roadmaps and provides input into the technical global strategy for the mission critical cloud infrastructure. The role will be a Cloud technical lead on the solution design and delivery on all FLBG complex projects regarding Cloud solutions and task delivery on a global scale. The role will have a high degree of influence over BAU Cloud technology roadmaps, and you will be expected to navigate the organization across both IT & OT globally to ensure common ground and alignment.

Because of the specialized nature of the role, it will be integral in not only enterprise technical delivery and solutions, but also in the project estimation/delivery/management, vendor selection, outsourcing activities, transitioning to operations, and in ongoing dialogues with our key stakeholders. You will be part of Global I&O team within the FLBG IT Department, and you will take a technical lead role together with other highly dedicated and skilled colleagues focused on the mission of ensuring a stable, efficient, and compliant IT services.

This position will be a lead role within the Cloud Infrastructure Engineer team with a focus on designing, building, deploying, and maintaining the FLBG Global Cloud services while leveraging the latest technology. The role is responsible for ensuring that IT platforms are secure, reliable, backed up and always available. In addition, the role will also provide BAU technical governance on projects and solution design. You will also be responsible for the QoS regarding Infrastructure services and will provide 4th level Infrastructure support duties as required.

What you'll do:

  • Technical lead for the day-to-day support and availability of the FDB Global Cloud Services, including build, configure, administer, and support infrastructure technologies and solutions.
  • Design and build secure, resilient, and scalable cloud-native platforms, including AWS Landing Zones.
  • Responsible for Automation & IaC across all FLBG sites.
  • Lead Infrastructure as Code adoption using Terraform or CloudFormation to automate provisioning.
  • Implement and own security-by-design, including identity management, encryption, and zero-trust principles.
  • Build monitoring and observability solutions (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus) to ensure system reliability.
  • Technical lead in defining and translating architectural designs into Cloud operational delivered solutions and services.
  • Responsible for leading the deployment of new Cloud technology, systems and services ensuring that they integrate smoothly with existing systems and infrastructure.
  • Ensure that all FLBG policies and procedures are followed and that all deployed systems meet the security frameworks in place.
  • Responsible for ensuring AIS metrics are defined and met prior to new system/service deployment.

What you bring:

  • 10+ years in a 3rd/4th Line Cloud engineer role in a global enterprise business, or 6+ Years in a biomedical sciences 3rd/4th line IT support role, or a mixture of both.
  • Proven experience managing production cloud environments.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and agile methodologies.
  • In-depth design and support knowledge of Cloud Infrastructure technologies such as AWS / Azure.
  • Strong scripting/coding skills (Python, Bash) and containerization experience (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Strong understanding of networking (VPCs, load balancing, DNS).
  • Understanding of security best practices (IAM, encryption, secrets management).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of Infrastructure security and associated frameworks such as ISO27000.
  • Experience designing distributed systems and microservices architecture.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps).
  • Adept at communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels, and across organizations, using architecture communication techniques.
  • Adept at gaining support from business and technical stakeholders for IT initiatives with low/medium levels of risk, impact, and complexity.
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Solutions Architect advantageous.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator or DevOps Engineer advantageous.

Experience and Education:

  • 10 yrs+ experience in an IT 3rd/ 4th line position with proven track record in an enterprise Cloud environment, or 5+ years’ experience of working in a biomedical IT service environment.
  • Any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background to deliver against role expectations.
  • Degree or higher in Computer Science or Information Technology or relevant technical certifications.
