FlatPlan is the leading Apple News technology and strategy provider, working with 230+ consumer publishers including The Atlantic, The Athletic, Vox Media and the Premier League. We're a preferred provider to Apple, helping the world's biggest publishers reach hundreds of millions of readers through Apple News and beyond. We're hiring a Full Stack Engineer to join our engineering team, working US hours to give us coverage across our customer base.
You'll ship features across our platform: integrations with major publishers, our customer dashboard, content parsing pipelines, and proofs of concept that push what Apple News can do. On any given day you might be building a liveblog integration for a global sports brand, debugging a delivery issue during a breaking news story, or prototyping something new with a feature Apple has just released to us.
We expect you to be fluent with AI development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or equivalent) and to use them daily, for writing code, reviewing PRs, triaging bugs and finding ways to ship faster.
- 4+ years commercial experience as a developer
- Proficient in JavaScript and React, with deep modern JavaScript fundamentals
- Daily, practical use of AI coding tools in your workflow
- Solid grasp of HTML5, modern CSS, and DOM manipulation
- AWS experience: deployment, configuration, sensible operational instincts
- Comfortable in git workflows and agile teams
- US hours availability (9am–5pm PT, equivalent to 5pm–1am UK)
- Experience with content parsing (Cheerio or similar)
- Exposure to Apple News Format (we'll train you regardless)
FlatPlan is a small, lean team with backgrounds at Stripe, New York Times Company and Apple. We're fully remote but intentional about connection: randomised social 1:1s, Friday socials, a virtual office and optional UK meet-ups twice a year. We share knowledge openly and regularly, and genuinely care about each other.
Our relationship with Apple runs deep: we're their preferred provider for Apple News, and following a period of assessment, a direct supplier to Apple.
All qualified candidates will be considered regardless of race, gender, identity, orientation, disability or background. No agencies.
