Hi, we’re FlatPlan, a SaaS business that helps media companies deliver breaking news articles to millions of people on Apple devices. We work with world-class brands like The Athletic, ITV News, Formula One and the Premier League. Our mission is to transform how news media reaches readers, and we’re looking for a talented WordPress Developer to help us achieve that.
Position Overview
We partner with major media companies, helping them reach wider audiences through innovative publishing solutions. A big part of that involves WordPress—the backbone of many of our customers’ content systems.
We need a skilled Front End developer with WordPress expertise to join our team, bringing technical expertise and creative problem-solving to our platform. You’ll be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimising WordPress-based solutions, as well as a forthcoming website for our brand. You’ll work closely with our Head of Design, development team, QA team and a Project Manager to conceptualise, build and refine solutions that improve how publishers distribute content. Whether it’s building a new site, crafting custom plugins, optimising performance or troubleshooting complex WordPress integrations, your work will have a direct impact on our customers.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Building beautiful, user friendly pages and tools
- Developing custom WordPress plugins and themes
- Integrating WordPress with FlatPlan’s tools to streamline content delivery
- Optimising WordPress sites for speed, security and scalability
- Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues for media partners
- Working with APIs, webhooks and third-party services to extend functionality
- Keeping up with WordPress best practices, ensuring our solutions remain cutting-edge
- Collaborating with our remote team to brainstorm and implement new features
What We’re Looking For
- 5+ years of WordPress development experience
- Strong proficiency in PHP, JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3
- Experience with custom WordPress plugin and theme development
- Knowledge of Gutenberg development and modern WordPress coding standards
- Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON and third-party integrations
- Proficiency in MySQL and database optimisation
- Understanding of SEO, accessibility and performance best practices
- Experience with Git version control and Agile workflows
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, detail-oriented mindset
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote team
