About Flatpay
Flatpay is one of Europe’s fastest-growing fintech companies, founded 3 years ago in Copenhagen with a simple mission: to take the stress out of card payments for small and medium-sized businesses. Hidden fees, complex pricing models, and constant price increases have made payments unnecessarily complicated. We believe it doesn’t have to be that way. One flat rate across all cards — that’s it.
Today, we’re more than 1,500 colleagues across Denmark, Finland, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, and France. In December 2025, Flatpay became a unicorn, marking a major milestone in our journey — and we launched in the UK in summer 2025 as our next growth market. We’re now building the UK organisation from the ground up, and finance plays a critical role in scaling the business responsibly.
The Role
As Senior Accountant – UK, you’ll take ownership of day-to-day financial operations for the UK entity while working closely with our central finance team in Denmark. This is a hands-on individual contributor role with clear scope, visibility, and room to grow as the UK business scales. You’ll report directly to the Head of Accounting and act as the UK finance point of contact across the business. We believe being together in the office is key to building strong foundations in a newly launched market — this role is therefore office-based, 5 days per week.
What You’ll Do
- UK Accounting & Compliance
- Own UK financial operations and reporting in collaboration with the central finance team.
- Prepare, analyse, and manage UK financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with UK VAT, HMRC requirements, and local tax regulations.
- Support month-end and year-end closings, reconciliations, and audits.
- Payments, AR/AP & Payroll
- Manage customer invoicing and accounts receivable.
- Take full ownership of accounts payable, reimbursements, and card expenses.
- Collaborate with BI and Sales on payroll inputs and commission calculations.
- Act as the main finance contact for the UK payroll provider, working closely with HR.
- Stakeholder Collaboration & Insights
- Provide clear financial insights and recommendations to support decision-making.
- Act as the UK finance point of contact for internal stakeholders.
- Translate financial topics for non-finance teams in a clear, practical way.
- Scaling & Systems
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of finance systems and processes.
- Help bring structure to an environment that is evolving quickly as the UK business grows.
- Take on broader responsibility over time as the organisation scales.
Who You Are
- Ambitious: You want to move beyond pure accounting and play a key role in shaping how finance supports a fast-growing UK business.
- Humble: You’re a team player who enjoys collaborating across functions.
- Commercially sharp: You combine strong accounting expertise with sound business judgment.
Skills & Experience
- 3+ years’ experience in an accounting or finance role with increasing responsibility.
- Strong knowledge of UK VAT, payroll processes, and HMRC compliance.
- Hands-on experience with accounts receivable, invoicing, and accounts payable.
- Comfortable supporting audits and preparing financial reports.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong Excel skills; experience with Microsoft Business Central is a plus.
- Comfortable working in a fast-growing environment with evolving processes.
