What you'll do
- Participate in the design and continuous improvement of our clinical genomic data platform, ensuring it efficiently handles genetic and genomic test results sourced from various laboratories.
- Work closely with the Precision Medicine team to uphold the accuracy and integrity of genomic data while supporting a range of applications within Flatiron's clinical products, such as OncoEMR and Flatiron Assist.
- Utilize your expertise in data management and documentation to facilitate the integration of genomic data into both new and existing applications.
- Drive innovation in the processes for collecting genomic data, leveraging technology and collaborative efforts to enhance efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineers, clinicians, product managers, and designers to incorporate logical data models into intricate electronic health record workflows.
- Create logical data models that support Flatiron's Community Oncology products, ensuring seamless interoperability of healthcare data across platforms.
- Analyze and interpret genomic data to inform clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes.
- Engage in cross-functional teamwork to identify opportunities for enhancing genomic data usage in clinical settings.
- Prepare and present findings to stakeholders, translating complex genomic information into understandable insights for diverse audiences.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in genomic research and informatics to continuously refine our practices and tools.
- Contribute to the development of best practices for genomic data management and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Requirements
- An advanced degree (Master's or PhD preferred) in bioinformatics, biomedical informatics, molecular biology, or a related field is required.
- Extensive experience with genomic standards, file formats, and nomenclature, including but not limited to HGNC and HGVS, as well as familiarity with VCF, GVCF, and BED file formats.
- A solid understanding of clinical oncology genomic profiling tests and the data they generate is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to convey complex genomic concepts to non-technical stakeholders and work collaboratively across various functions.
- Proficiency in SQL or experience with cloud-based data warehousing solutions is necessary.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Nice to have
- Experience working with molecular profiling laboratories is a plus.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or R can be advantageous.
- Capability to identify and articulate the clinical implications of genomic information effectively.
- A robust background in oncology data and understanding the significance of genomic data within oncology contexts is desirable.
- Knowledge of medical terminologies such as SNOMED, ICD-10, and LOINC is beneficial.
- Participation in genomic and informatics industry organizations and familiarity with interoperability standards in genomics is a plus.
- Experience with interoperability standards like FHIR and HL7, particularly concerning genomic data exchange, is advantageous.
- Familiarity with clinical next-generation sequencing data and compliance with CAP/CLIA workflows is preferred.
