Reimagine the infrastructure of cancer care within a community that values integrity, inspires growth, and is uniquely positioned to create a more modern, connected oncology ecosystem. We’re looking for a Senior Research Scientist on our Statistical Programming team who is well-versed in R and real-world evidence to help us accomplish our mission to improve and extend lives by learning from the experience of every person with cancer.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will work as a member of the Statistical Programming team within the Research Sciences (RS) department, primarily supporting the Custom Solutions and Services (CSS) team. This team provides customized real-world data and real-world evidence solutions to address the most important research questions across clinical development, market access, and commercial use cases for our life sciences partners. As part of CSS, you will:

  • Provide scientific oversight for the programming of statistical analyses on multiple, simultaneous research projects.
  • Provide consultation on complex epidemiologic/statistical methods, study design, data limitations, and data models to other statistical programming staff.
  • Independently translate analytic specifications from a statistical analysis plan into R code to create analytic datasets, generating descriptive and inferential statistics, data visualizations, often involving novel variables or complex statistical methods, in consultation with the study principal investigator.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on appropriate use cases for, and nuances of, the variety of different Flatiron data modalities, including EHR-derived real-world data, clinico-genomics data, ML-extracted data, and claims data.
  • Apply expertise in cancer biology, therapy, and/or epidemiology across multiple major tumor types to analytic code and scientific oversight.
  • Provide mentorship and support to other statistical programming staff.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders across our medical and scientific organization to execute and deliver on client-sponsored research studies in an accurate, effective, and timely manner.
  • Lead initiatives for the continuous improvement of Flatiron’s proprietary analytical tooling.

Who You Are

You're a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver. In addition, you’re an analytical thinker and excellent communicator with experience analyzing real-world data (e.g., healthcare claims or electronic health records). You’re excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves to tackle meaningful problems each and every day.

  • You hold a Doctorate degree (e.g., PhD, ScD, DrPH) in Biostatistics/Statistics, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Biological Sciences, Public Health, Math, or a closely related field with 4-5+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 7-8+ years of relevant experience.
  • You have a deep understanding of real-world data and related epidemiology and biostatistics methodologies used to generate real-world evidence.
  • You are an excellent programmer in R (including tidyverse) and are proficient working in Git-based environments (e.g., Github, Gitlab).
  • You have extensive experience conducting analyses with large healthcare-related datasets (e.g., administrative claims, electronic medical records, genomics).
  • You possess the data curiosity to proactively identify and solve for unexpected patterns.
  • You have strong leadership, communication, prioritization and decision-making skills necessary to oversee, evaluate, plan and implement multiple high-visibility projects in a timely fashion.
  • You have the ability to lead projects and people effectively in a constantly changing, diverse, and matrix environment.
  • You have a growth mindset, are willing to learn from others, and are dedicated to promoting a psychologically safe environment.
  • You are passionate about our mission to improve healthcare through technology.

Extra credit

  • You have experience working with oncology datasets.
  • You can write SQL queries.
  • You have experience in predictive modeling.
  • You have experience leading teams, either as a manager or project/team lead.
