The Finance Director is a pivotal leadership role responsible for driving financial excellence and enabling operational scale in a growth-stage business. Reporting to the CEO, you will own the finance function end-to-end — combining hands-on financial operations with strategic planning and Board-level reporting. Alongside financial leadership, you will help strengthen and scale flatfair's operational engine by embedding clear KPIs, governance and performance rhythms that support sustainable growth. This role suits someone who thrives in a £5m–£20m, lean-team environment — comfortable rolling up their sleeves while building scalable systems and strong foundations. You'll join a collaborative leadership team with high ownership, low bureaucracy and the space to shape how we scale. The role can be considered on either a part-time (min. 25 hours a week) or full time basis.
Your impact at flatfair:
- Financial Leadership: hands-on delivery and strategic stewardship
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and scenario modelling aligned to company goals.
- Own finance operations end-to-end including cashflow management, AP/AR, billing, payroll oversight and month-end close.
- Produce timely, accurate management reporting including P&L, balance sheet, cashflow, KPI reporting and Board packs.
- Maintain strong, proportionate financial controls appropriate for a scaling business.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities, driving improvements in unit economics, margin and cost control.
Operational performance and scalability:
- Design and embed the operational cadence of the business: KPIs, accountability rhythms and performance reviews.
- Partner with operational teams including Customer Support, EOT and Collections to improve efficiency and outcomes.
- Improve processes, tooling and workflows to support scalable growth.
- Strengthen oversight of insurance and/or credit-style workflows where relevant, ensuring effective delivery and good customer outcomes.
Strategic, funding and governance leadership:
- Support preparation for fundraising or debt facilities, including financial modelling, data room readiness and diligence responses.
- Advise the CEO and Board on funding options and commercial trade-offs.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax obligations and corporate governance requirements.
- Develop and maintain pragmatic risk management frameworks that protect the business while enabling growth.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and leadership team on performance, priorities and strategic decisions.
Team leadership and capability building:
- Lead and develop a high-performing finance team.
- Build fit-for-stage systems and clear accountability across finance and corporate services.
- Ensure clarity of roles, objectives and performance expectations across areas in scope.
About you:
- Professionally qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent).
- Senior finance leadership experience in a growth-stage business, ideally £5m–£20m turnover.
- Comfortable being hands-on with day-to-day finance operations while also leading at a strategic level.
- Strong track record in financial planning, forecasting, cash management, controls and Board reporting.
- Operational mindset with evidence of improving processes and performance in scaling environments.
Any experience of the following is a plus:
- Exposure to insurance and/or debt/credit-style or regulated-adjacent models.
- Fundraising experience (equity and/or debt), including diligence and investor communications.
- Experience strengthening operational functions such as customer operations or collections.
- Strong systems and automation mindset (accounting stack, CRM/workflow tooling).
The way you work:
- Pragmatic, delivery-focused and comfortable with ambiguity.
- Strong judgement - knowing when to go deep versus when to move quickly.
- Clear communicator who can influence senior stakeholders and challenge constructively.
- Focused on building simple, scalable processes that enable growth without slowing the business down.
Benefits of joining flatfair:
- Competitive base salary and performance bonus.
- Equity in the business via our EMI scheme.
- Enhanced salary-sacrifice pension contribution.
- 25 days annual leave, plus an extra day for every year at flatfair.
- Monthly wellbeing allowance and private medical insurance (Vitality).
This is a hybrid role with 2–4 days per month in our London office.
About flatfair: The lettings industry hasn't evolved fast enough. For tenants, it's often opaque and financially restrictive. For agents and landlords, it can be complex, fragmented and inefficient. We believe renting should be built on transparency, choice and simplicity for everyone involved. Established in 2016, flatfair is re-imagining how the rental ecosystem works. We've built and scaled a product used by tens of thousands of tenants and partners across the UK — unlocking over £25m in upfront savings and providing stronger protection for landlords. We're now entering our next phase: expanding our platform, launching new products and building the infrastructure required to support sustained, scalable growth. Our ambition is to become the technology layer powering a fairer, smarter lettings industry. This is a pivotal stage for the business. We have strong foundations and meaningful traction — but we're still early enough that the right leaders will shape how we scale. For a Finance Director, that means real ownership: strengthening financial discipline, building robust governance and risk frameworks, and helping the business grow in a controlled and commercially resilient way. If you're motivated by building in a growth-stage environment where your impact is visible and material, this is that opportunity.
