Relief Cover Support Staff Bishopthorpe, York, YO23 2RF
Variable hours to cover staff absences across Brunswick. Typical hours between 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday - Friday. Weekend cover hours may be available in our shop. £12.78 per hour.

Brunswick Organic Nursery is a registered charity based in Bishopthorpe, York. We provide a supportive, productive and rewarding workplace for adults with learning disabilities, enabling them to build skills, confidence and independence through meaningful work.
The Role
We are recruiting flexible Relief Cover Staff to support our teams during staff absences such as holidays, training and sickness. You will lead small groups or provide one-to-one support, creating a safe, positive and engaging environment where individuals can learn, develop and thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead work sessions for small groups or provide one-to-one support
- Support adults with learning disabilities to develop practical and social skills
- Be able to plan or adapt tasks for the day
- Ensure health and safety, including safe use of equipment and PPE
- Supervise volunteers within your group
- Encourage independence, confidence and pride in work
- Communicate effectively using a range of approaches tailored to individuals
- Maintain basic records relevant to the work area
- Act as a positive and professional representative of Brunswick

The Ideal Candidate
You will be caring, adaptable and confident working with people of varying abilities. You'll bring practical experience, strong communication skills and a respectful, empowering approach to support work.
About you:
- Experience in one or more relevant work areas (e.g. horticulture, crafts, cooking, gardening, woodwork, admin)
- Experience supporting or teaching people with different skills and abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Ability to lead small groups and work independently
- A positive, patient and enthusiastic attitude
- Good communication and listening skills
- Good IT skills (email, Word, record-keeping)
- Awareness of health & safety and safeguarding (training provided)
- Flexibility to work variable hours, including some at short notice e.g. on the day, to cover sick leave
- A driving licence is essential for some work areas (garden services, woodwork, land crops)
