Join Our Team!

Here, we want our team to feel like a community – a place where people support each other, share ideas and take pride in creating great experiences together.

Our Café is an important part of that community, and our events help bring it to life. From great coffee and food to socials, quizzes and climbing competitions, we want to create a space where customers enjoy spending time both on and off the wall.

We’re looking for a Café & Events Manager who sees the potential in both and is excited to make them even better. You’ll take ownership of how the Café operates – its processes, standards, training, products and performance – while also developing events and initiatives that engage our existing community and bring new people into the centre.

We want someone who’s organised, enthusiastic and creative – someone who notices opportunities, enjoys developing new ideas and can turn them into practical improvements.

Our mission is Growth through Community and Challenge, and you’ll play an important part in bringing that to life across the Café, our events and the wider Flashpoint Swansea community.

What Will You Be Doing?

No two weeks are likely to look exactly the same. One day you might be reviewing sales and wastage, training someone on Café processes or developing the menu; the next, you could be working with suppliers, talking to customers, planning a quiz night or helping organise one of our major climbing competitions.

At the heart of the role, you’ll make sure the Café runs effectively while developing events and experiences that give people more reasons to be part of Flashpoint Swansea.

You’ll:

  • Own and continuously improve Café processes, standards, procedures and operational resources.
  • Maintain strong food hygiene, allergen, health & safety and cleaning processes.
  • Coordinate Café training and competency, helping the team build their knowledge, confidence and consistency.
  • Monitor sales, Cost of Sales, stock, wastage and other agreed KPIs, reporting performance to the Centre Manager and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversee stock, suppliers, ordering, menu development, pricing and margins.
  • Ensure Café equipment is appropriately maintained, serviced and repaired.
  • Develop and organise community-focused events such as student socials, quizzes and other Café activities.
  • Play an active role in planning and delivering Flashpoint Swansea’s larger climbing competitions and events.
  • Be visible and approachable – talk to customers, seek feedback and use what you learn to improve the Café, events and wider customer experience.

While you won’t directly line-manage the all-rounder team, you’ll be the go-to person for Café knowledge, processes, standards and competency.

You’ll take ownership of Café-specific training, provide practical coaching and help ensure the team consistently delivers excellent food, drinks and customer service. Where performance or training concerns arise, you’ll work with the Deputy Centre Manager and Centre Manager to address them.

You’ll also take a leading role in developing our events programme – looking for new ways to bring people together, encourage customers to use the Café space and strengthen the community around Flashpoint Swansea.

The role includes regular operational shifts, which may include Café, Reception, Duty Manager or Instructor work. This will keep you connected with our customers and team and give you a strong understanding of how the different parts of the centre work together.

What Are We Looking For?

You don’t need to arrive knowing absolutely everything. We’re looking for someone with a good grounding in hospitality who cares about customers and standards, enjoys bringing people together and gets satisfaction from making things work well.

  • Hospitality & Operations – Relevant Café, hospitality, food and beverage or similar customer-facing experience, with a good understanding of operational standards, food hygiene and allergens.
  • Organisation & Process Management – Confident managing processes, resources, records and competing priorities, with a practical approach to getting things done.
  • Training & Development – Experience training, coaching or supporting others to develop their knowledge, confidence and competency.
  • Financial & Stock Management Awareness – Comfortable with stock, ordering and wastage, alongside basic financial or performance information such as sales, costs, margins or KPIs.
  • Customer Experience & Communication – A strong communicator who is comfortable talking to customers, seeking feedback and working collaboratively with others.
  • Events & Community – Enthusiasm for creating events, activities and experiences that bring people together and encourage engagement with the centre.

We don’t expect you to tick every box, but experience or knowledge in some of these areas would be a bonus:

  • Events – Experience planning or delivering social events, competitions, community activities or similar.
  • Commercial & Product Management – Experience with Cost of Sales, margins, suppliers, KPIs, menu or product development and Point of Sale systems.
  • Food & Beverage Compliance – Qualifications or experience in food hygiene, allergens or other relevant food and beverage compliance.
  • Climbing & Active Leisure – An interest in climbing, active leisure, events or community activities.

Previous formal line-management experience isn’t essential – support and training will be provided.

Why Join Us?

We’d love our Café & Events Manager to get involved in the climbing, activities and community that make our centres what they are. If climbing, active leisure and the outdoors interest you, there are plenty of opportunities to make the most of being part of the team.

  • Free climbing across the Flashpoint Group – plus free climbing for a nominated family member or partner, and staff guest passes.
  • Free Freedog / Crazy Climb sessions – for you and up to three others, plus discounts on parties, kids clubs and courses.
  • Climbing events & wider climbing community – Free entry to our larger events and free or discounted climbing at a range of other walls.
  • Outdoor & climbing discounts – access to a range of staff, trade and pro deals with climbing and outdoor brands and retailers.
  • Food & drink perks – including free hot drinks while working and generous staff Café discounts.
  • Development & Wellbeing – role-related training, discounts on some additional climbing qualifications, Cycle to Work and discounted physiotherapy, osteopathy and sports massage.

We’re looking for someone who wants to do more than keep the Café running. We want someone who will understand what’s working, question what isn’t and bring their own creativity and ideas to both the Café and our events.

Most importantly, we want someone who will become part of the community here and help make Flashpoint Swansea somewhere our customers and team genuinely enjoy spending time.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!
