Work Hours: 30 hrs/month (minimum) Guaranteed 1 shift each week with further opportunities for additional hours.

Overview

Flashpoint Climbing is currently made up of multiple centres across Cardiff, Swansea and Bristol with a speciality in indoor climbing. Job Summary

The Instructor is primarily responsible for delivering high-quality climbing instruction, coaching and group activities across the centre. They will create safe, engaging and progressive experiences for customers of all ages and abilities while acting as an ambassador for Flashpoint’s values and community. Instructors will be expected to have a strong understanding of Flashpoint products, services, centre layout, safety procedures and company policies. They will play an active role in encouraging customer progression, repeat visits and community engagement. Although instructing is the primary focus of the role, Instructors will also support the wider operation of the centre. This includes reception duties, café operations, customer service, cleaning, stock management and other operational tasks required to ensure the smooth running of the facility. You will report directly to, and have support from, the Head Coach.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver climbing sessions, courses and coaching programmes for which training has been provided
  • Deliver safe, engaging and progressive experiences for customers of all ages and abilities
  • Run a variety of sessions including Intro Sessions, Bouldering Basics, NICAS, group bookings, taster sessions, holiday activities and private coaching
  • Ensure participants understand relevant safety procedures and centre rules
  • Promote customer progression through coaching, courses, memberships and events
  • Interact with all guests whilst delivering a high standard of customer service at all times
  • Carry out regular floor walks under the direction of the Duty Manager
  • Ensure the accuracy of bookings and customer data whilst complying with GDPR
  • Process bookings, memberships and payments accurately
  • Assist with reception, café and operational duties as required
  • Barista and basic café duties whilst ensuring safe food handling procedures (cleanliness and allergy awareness)
  • Conduct stock checks and relay any shortages to the relevant manager
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the centre
  • Complete daily operational records, inspections and departmental task lists
  • Computer literate, including use of Google Workspace
  • The ability to communicate clearly and politely, verbally and in writing
  • A friendly and professional attitude
  • A hard-working team player
  • Flexibility regarding working hours and shift patterns

Desired Skills and Knowledge

  • Experience in coaching, instructing, teaching or leading groups
  • Experience in customer‑facing roles
  • An interest in climbing or a general interest in sports

Desired Qualities

  • Experience using Rock Gym Pro booking system or similar systems
  • Experience working in the climbing, leisure, education or outdoor activity sectors
  • Climbing experience and a desire to help others progress
