JOB SUMMARY
This position assumes a key role as the front-line SPX customer-facing representative, assisting our customers at sites throughout the UK across all stages of equipment lifecycle—including new installations, warranty work, planned maintenance, inspection work, and water treatment-related services. The role requires servicing and maintaining cooling towers across multiple OEM product lines, ensuring optimal performance, water quality, and compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
In addition to core service activities, the Service Technician supports the growth of the SPX Cooling Technologies business by demonstrating best-in-class work ethics, maintaining strong customer focus, and identifying cross-selling and new business opportunities during site visits. The position requires willingness to travel, along with overtime and occasional weekend working based on business needs.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Service, maintain, and install new and existing factory assembled cooling equipment
Perform inspection, diagnostics, and corrective actions on cooling towers from multiple OEMs
Carry out water treatment monitoring, testing, and basic remedial actions to support cooling system health and compliance
Survey customers\’ installations and recommend improvements for enhanced performance, water efficiency, and alignment with current legislation
Support UK factory sales with installation and assembly visits
Assist sales personnel with competitor and SPX product information required for quotations
Ensure all site work is completed in accordance with the latest Health & Safety guidelines
Participate in inter departmental training programs
Perform warranty repairs and assist with commissioning
Effectively utilize SPX Leadership Standards to create a positive working environment that drives business objectives
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Experience servicing cooling towers and associated equipment across multiple OEM product ranges
Practical knowledge of water treatment principles, such as system testing, dosing requirements, Legionella control, and water chemistry troubleshooting
Ability to work unsupervised and under own initiative
Strong communication skills and the ability to supervise sub contractors and internal staff
Ability to work in confined spaces and at height
Ability to perform site relevant manual handling
Experience with the SPX Marley product range
Flexibility to work overtime and adapt to schedule changes at short notice
Willingness to travel throughout the UK and internationally on a scheduled or ad hoc basis
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Formal engineering qualification or a minimum of five years\’ experience in a similar role
Demonstrated experience in water treatment servicing within industrial cooling environments
Full UK driving licence
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organisational and time management abilities
Proactive, adaptable, and flexible attitude
Computer literate
Self‐motivated with strong decision‐making capability
Ability to work alone while contributing effectively as a team member
