FlashAcademy® is used by thousands of schools and institutions to support multilingual learners. We’re evolving beyond a learning platform into something more ambitious – a system that helps schools understand, track and act on language proficiency at scale. Assessment is central to that vision. We believe schools don’t just need more content, they need better insight. That means designing assessments that are not only accurate and reliable, but genuinely useful for teachers, leaders and students.
The opportunity We’re looking for a Head of Assessment to take ownership of how we measure learning across the platform. This is a rare opportunity to shape assessment in a modern, AI-enabled product, combining strong pedagogical foundations with new approaches to adaptive testing, automated marking and real-time insight. You’ll work across product, design, engineering and learning teams to ensure everything we build is grounded in robust assessment principles, while still being practical, scalable and intuitive for schools.
What you’ll be doing You’ll lead assessment across three core areas:
- Designing meaningful assessments - Define what we measure and how, across admissions, progress tracking and intervention. Ensure assessments align with recognised frameworks (e.g. CEFR) while remaining practical for schools. Design assessments that generate insight, not just scores.
- Building robust measurement models - Apply approaches such as IRT and adaptive testing to improve accuracy and efficiency. Continuously evaluate reliability, validity and fairness. Shape how learner progress is tracked and interpreted over time.
- Shaping the future of AI in assessment - Help define how AI is used in areas like writing / speaking assessment and feedback. Work with technical teams to ensure AI-driven features are trustworthy and pedagogically sound. Explore new approaches to item generation, marking, and diagnostics.
Alongside this, you’ll:
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Development, and Learning Experience teams
- Help translate assessment thinking into clear product features and user experiences
- Act as a key voice internally and externally on assessment quality and credibility
What we’re looking for We’re open to different backgrounds, but you’re likely to bring:
- Experience in educational assessment, psychometrics, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of concepts like validity, reliability and test design.
- Familiarity with IRT, CAT or other modern measurement approaches.
- An interest in how AI can be applied to assessment (and its limitations).
- You don’t need to be a software engineer, but you should be comfortable working closely with technical teams and thinking about how ideas translate into product.
Just as important: You can explain complex ideas simply and clearly. You care about real-world usability, not just theoretical rigour. You’re excited by the idea of building something from the ground up.
Nice to have:
- Experience with language assessment (EAL / ELL, CEFR, etc).
- Background in EdTech or digital assessment platforms.
- Experience working with international schools or large education groups.
- Exposure to AI-assisted marking or automated assessment systems.
You’ll shape a core part of the product, not sit on the side-lines. You’ll help define how AI is used responsibly in assessment. You’ll work on problems that genuinely matter to teachers and learners. You’ll be part of a company moving towards a data and intelligence-led future.
