As an Excavator Operator with Flannery Plant Hire you will operate a range of tracked and wheeled excavators on construction, civils and groundworks projects. You will be responsible for safe, efficient and accurate machine operation, carrying out basic checks and routine maintenance, and working with site teams to deliver projects to specification and programme. The role involves depot-based work and regular travel to customer sites across the UK and Ireland.
Key Responsibilities- Safely operate excavators of various sizes for digging, lifting, loading and grading tasks in accordance with site instructions and plans.
- Interpret drawings, levels and setting-out information to achieve required tolerances and finished surfaces.
- Carry out pre-start and post-shift checks, reporting defects and ensuring machines are fuelled, lubricated and in a safe condition.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as greasing, changing filters and basic servicing, and escalate technical faults to workshop teams.
- Load and secure attachments, including buckets, thumbs, hammers and augers, and ensure correct fitment and safe operation.
- Work collaboratively with site supervisors, groundworkers and other plant operators to maintain productivity and site safety.
- Maintain clean and accurate job records, timesheets and site paperwork using company systems where required.
- Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures, participate in toolbox talks and complete site risk assessments as required.
- Ensure secure loading and unloading of machines for transport and assist with vehicle marshalling when necessary.
- Provide a professional point of contact for customers on site, demonstrating the company's commitment to service and standards.
- Proven experience operating excavators on construction or civil engineering projects.
- Relevant plant operator certification such as CPCS, NPORS, or equivalent is desirable.
- Valid CSCS card or willingness to obtain one, and competence to work safely on construction sites.
- Good understanding of machine safety systems, attachment fitment and basic hydraulic principles.
- Ability to read site drawings, levels and setting-out information.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel and work away as required.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual and committed to maintaining high standards of workmanship and site housekeeping.
