DT Civils & Utilities are a leading contractor within the Multi-Utility industry, looking to recruit a driven and self-motivated individual to oversee the finance and accounting function. You will report directly to the Finance Director and be responsible for a small yet dedicated staff in both finance and procurement. We are a dynamic business with a suitably dynamic clientele. As a result, you can expect some role crossover and an inclusive and supportive approach is essential. You will have experience in the use of Sage 50 accounting and payroll software with a strong understanding of Excel and other MS applications. The successful candidate could be either QBE or professionally qualified, but as the Commercial and Finance functions of the business are so fundamentally linked, experience in contracting and the construction industry is essential.

Responsibilities

  • The preparation and presentation of monthly management reports to the Finance Director
  • Monthly controls and reconciliations
  • Oversight of all accounting functions
  • Cost centre management and reporting
  • Maintenance of resource and cash-forecasting models
  • Review and development of financial systems and controls
  • Personnel management of allocated team members
  • Ensuring integration and collaboration with the Commercial team
  • Holiday and absence cover for relevant teams
  • Some general office management

In addition to direct duties, the role will include total oversight of those responsible for:

  • Sales and purchase ledger
  • Revenue recognition, sales documents and debtor conversion
  • Purchase orders, invoice processing and supplier payment runs
  • Banking reconciliations and cashflow management
  • Statutory HMRC submissions (VAT, PAYE, CIS etc.)
  • Contract performance and departmental reporting
  • Stock management and control

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles and practices
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team
  • Proficient in using Sage 50 and MS Office Suite
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience within the construction, civil engineering or utilities contracting industry
