To ensure the consistent quality and safety of all fresh produce received, stored, packed, and dispatched by overseeing and managing all quality control processes. This role ensures that all products meet company, customer, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the quality control team.
- Train staff on quality standards, processes, and product specifications.
- Implement and monitor quality control systems and procedures.
- Oversee daily quality checks of inbound and outbound produce.
- Ensure produce meets quality specifications and compliance requirements (customer, retailer, and legislative standards).
- Work closely with procurement, production, warehouse, and commercial teams and sometimes with suppliers to resolve issues.
Education & Experience
- Degree or diploma in Food Science, Agriculture, or related field (preferred).
- 10+ years’ experience in a similar quality control role within fresh produce or food manufacturing.
- 5+ years in team management.
- HACCP level 3 Lead auditor qualification is a benefit but not essential.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of fresh produce quality standards, shelf life, and handling practices.
- Knowledge of food safety systems (HACCP, BRC, or similar).
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with UK retailers and their quality standards.
