ABOUT US
We run dating events for those fed up of dating apps. Events that are not speed dating but something much better, simply a laidback gathering of people in a no pressure vibrant atmosphere such as bars and cafes. Our events have been a great success and we are looking to expand. Flamingo Dating encourages people to meet each other in real life, under our wing (no pun intended). Our events cover different groups ranging from 18 - 50. So far, multiple people have dated, exchanged numbers, made friends and had plenty of laughs.

THE ROLE
This is a volunteer position (unpaid) based in an office environment in person at Nottingham Trent University’s Boots Library in the city centre. There is no set minimum number of hours required for this role. Volunteers choose how much time they wish to contribute based on their own availability. You’ll receive one-to-one training, guidance and ongoing support, while gaining hands-on experience through real projects within the marketing, social media and events industry. The role may involve social media management, content creation, marketing research, online event promotion and other creative work based on your interests and development goals.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Build a portfolio of genuine marketing and content work
  • Develop practical social media, content creation and event-marketing skills
  • Receive personalised training, feedback and guidance
  • Access to marketing and content creation guides and handbooks, with real industry insights.
  • Gain experience working with a growing Nottingham events business
  • Request a professional reference following successful participation (minimum 3 months of participation required)
  • The freedom to think outside the box and exercise your own creativity in the role.
  • Receive support with your CV, portfolio and referencing.

Possible Tasks

  • Social media: Scheduling posts & stories on Instagram & TikTok from selecting content in our archive of pre-prepared content for posting.
  • Content creation: Create a variety of engaging social media content, including memes, event guides, Reels, promotional event footage and dating industry news and more. This will involve developing original content and editing existing material using tools such as Canva and CapCut. Any skills in graphic design is desirable but not essential. You will also be shown how to carry out these tasks.
  • Market Research: There may be one-off research tasks where you may be asked, for example: to compile a list of local influencers, draw inspiration and ideas from industry or research to find a new social media newsletter etc.

Other Information:

  • Hours: Flexible. There is no minimum commitment, and volunteers decide how much time they wish to contribute.
  • Location: In person at Nottingham Trent University’s Boots Library, Nottingham city centre.
  • Equipment: Volunteers should have access to a laptop that they can bring to the placement.
  • Support: You’ll have access to detailed Google Docs guides, training materials and structured task lists.
  • Programmes: Canva, Capcut, ChatGPT will be standard programs you will use. With the possibility of using Photoshop and various event platforms and research sites.

Although this is an unpaid volunteering opportunity, you'll receive one-to-one mentoring, practical marketing experience, portfolio-building opportunities, CV support and the opportunity to request a professional reference following successful participation.
