A private, independent optometry and ophthalmology practice in Reigate, Surrey, offering a wide array of advanced optical services and high-end products to a large and discerning patient base. A busy and varied workplace, the candidate is required to be highly knowledgeable, collaborative, adaptable, take responsibility and possess an excellent customer manner. The candidate may be expected to work the occasional evening or weekend clinic. Professional development will be encouraged and supported financially.
Requirements
- A comprehensive understanding of the general principles of optometry, common eye problems and their remediation through the use of spectacles.
- A comprehensive understanding of frame types and their associated qualities (rimmed/supra/rimless & acetate/metal), the differing refractive qualities of lenses (plastic vs glass) and the use of coatings for medical and/or aesthetic benefits.
- Motivated by the opportunity to create and sell bespoke eyewear that utilises the best frame makers, latest styles and finest lenses.
- Able to fit, adjust, repair or glaze any type of frame with the standard industry equipment.
- Form and cultivate relationships with company representatives.
- Form and cultivate relationships with patients/customers.
- A comprehensive understanding of the general principles of optometry, common eye problems and their remediation through the use of contact lenses.
- Knowledge of main contact lens brands and their correct application.
- Experience teaching the wearing of contact lenses to both adults and children.
- Take responsibility for the department and use independent initiative to effect changes that ensure customer retention and increase turnover and efficiency.
- Form and maintain relationships with company representatives.
- Form and maintain relationships with patients/customers.
- Experience with Direct Debits and their management an advantage.
- Experience with maintaining spreadsheets an advantage.
- Minimum of 6 years experience in the optical industry.
- Willing to work occasional Saturdays or evenings if required.
- An ability to work at speed under pressure, be adaptable and willing to assist or cover for other members of staff.
- Answer telephone queries, book appointments and reply to emails.
- Strong computer skills, especially word processing, spreadsheets and email.
- Ability to pre-screen both adults and children an advantage.
- Experience of working in an ophthalmology clinic and/or possessing ophthalmological knowledge a strong advantage.
