Job Overview
Flame Health Optometry have been instructed by our client, an independent optical practice in Central London, to recruit a permanent part‑time Optical Assistant. This role offers a salary from £28,000 pro rata and will suit someone with a warm manner, strong customer service skills, and an interest in both the retail and optical sides of the business.
About the Job
Working in a boutique practice with a single testing room, you will help keep the day‑to‑day running of the floor smooth and well organised while delivering a high standard of face‑to‑face service. The role includes welcoming patients, assisting with frame styling, dispensing and sales, and supporting pre‑screening and optical administration where required.
You will be based in‑practice for three days a week, including a rotating weekend day, and will work closely with a small, close‑knit team. There may also be occasional involvement on testing days, although this is infrequent. The position calls for someone who can work independently, use initiative, and take pride in doing things properly.
About the Employer
Our client is an independent optical practice known for its carefully curated collection of eyewear and its personalised, premium approach to patient care. The setting is small and supportive, with a boutique feel and a clear focus on both service and presentation.
This is a business where the optical offer and the retail experience sit closely together, so the environment will appeal to someone who values quality, attention to detail and a more individual style of practice.
What We Are Looking For
Retail or customer‑facing experience is essential, and an Optical Assistant or Dispensing Optician background would be an advantage rather than a requirement. No formal optical qualifications are needed if you are eager to learn.
We are looking for a natural people‑person with a warm, confident manner and a strong retail instinct. You should be a quick learner who can work independently, show initiative and bring the right attitude to a role where service and sales are equally important. Optical experience is welcome, but candidates new to optics will also be considered.
Who This Role Suits
This role will suit someone at an early or developing stage of their career who wants to bring strong front‑of‑house experience into a specialist setting. It will also appeal to candidates who enjoy meeting people, supporting sales and service, and learning the optical side of the business in a hands‑on environment.
Job Location
The role is based in Central London and benefits from excellent public transport links. It is an onsite position in an area with the pace and convenience associated with the city centre.
