About the Role

This is your opportunity to learn and develop the essential skills required to become a fully qualified Dispensing Optician. Through a combination of blended learning — distance learning, block release periods, and hands‑on practice — you’ll gain invaluable experience and qualifications under the guidance of an experienced supervisor.

What You’ll Do

  • Analysing prescriptions and providing tailored advice on lens types and frame styling.
  • Taking precise frame, facial, and lens measurements.
  • Completing distance learning coursework and assignments.
  • Attending block release periods for immersive study and practical training.
  • Building a Pre‑Qualification Portfolio (PQP), showcasing your case records and clinical expertise.

What We’re Looking For

  • GCSEs (Grade 4‑9 / A‑C) in English, Mathematics, and Science.
  • A strong passion for ophthalmic dispensing and a desire to learn.
  • Commitment to 10‑15 hours per week for distance learning coursework.
  • Availability to attend two block release periods per year at ABDO College in Godmersham, Kent.
  • A professional and motivated attitude, with excellent communication skills.

Location & Flexibility

  • Years 1 & 2: Training at our Epsom branch.
  • Year 3: Potential for placement at another branch, depending on availability and progression.
