Flame Health Optometry have been instructed to recruit an Optical Advisor for a permanent, on-site position in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, offering £25,000–£29,000 per annum. This opportunity suits an experienced optical professional who combines strong customer care with commercial awareness, dispensing knowledge and the ability to support a broad range of practice activities.

Working within an independent optometry practice, you will provide informed, empathetic support to a loyal customer base, helping people select frames and lenses suited to their visual requirements, preferences and lifestyle. The role includes dispensing advice across a wide range of products, including designer brands, while maintaining a high standard of service and attention to detail.

You will work closely with the wider team to uphold a patient-first approach, contribute to clinical excellence and identify opportunities to improve the service. The position is expected to take on responsibilities currently managed by the practice owners’ family, with scope to support activities across the business, including areas such as accounts and general operational matters.

Our client is a committed independent optometry practice focused on high-quality care and an excellent customer experience. The practice places importance on clinical standards, personal service and continuous improvement, supported by a contemporary working environment and a broad selection of frames and lenses. The culture recognises professional skill, rewards achievement and encourages development over the short, medium and long term. The successful candidate will join a team that promotes the benefits of independent eye care within the local community.

You will need a demonstrable track record in an optical role, ideally supported by experience in dispensing and a strong understanding of customer needs. The practice is seeking a capable all-rounder, likely an experienced Optical Advisor, with commercial awareness, an eye for detail and the confidence to contribute across a wide range of business activities. Some management experience and accounts experience would be beneficial. You should have a significant interest in optical fashion and maintain up-to-date awareness of clinical developments. A patient-focused approach is essential, together with the ability to spend appropriate time understanding visual requirements and offering clear advice. You will also need to communicate the value of independent eye care and engage effectively with the local community.

This role will suit an experienced optical professional who is ready to broaden their contribution beyond day-to-day advising and dispensing. It may appeal to someone seeking greater responsibility, practical involvement in business operations and a clear opportunity to develop within an independent practice.

The position is based on site in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, an established town in the Cotswolds with a varied local community and strong cultural identity.
