Flame Health Pharmacy has been instructed to recruit a Superintendent Pharmacist and Clinical Director for our client in a confidential search. This is a senior clinical leadership role combining regulatory accountability with hands‑on prescribing, service development and close collaboration with technology teams.
Job Overview
A permanent Superintendent Pharmacist and Clinical Director role based near Cambridge, with a salary of £85,000–£110,000, depending on experience. It will suit a GPhC-registered independent prescriber ready to take named regulatory responsibility while continuing to practise and shape the growth of clinical services.
About the Job
You will be the named Superintendent Pharmacist, accountable for the safe and effective running of the pharmacy business. Your responsibilities will include clinical governance, inspection readiness, incident review, controlled drugs, the Responsible Pharmacist rota and the policies, procedures and protocols that underpin the service.
As lead prescriber, you will prescribe across NHS and private services, supervise prescribers and oversee prescribing audits. You will also shape the clinical roadmap, developing safe models for new services and considering their costs, pricing and NHS reimbursement.
Working with pharmacy colleagues, product and engineering leads, you will agree which decisions can be automated and where a registered professional must act. You will provide clinical acceptance for patient‑facing software releases and ensure decisions can be traced and evidenced. The role is primarily on site near Cambridge at least four days a week, with some consultation and governance work possible remotely.
About the Employer
Our client is an online pharmacy providing NHS and private prescribing services, over‑the‑counter products and medicines for care homes. Its model combines digital services with automated dispensing and delivery.
The business is expanding its clinical services and is appointing a dedicated superintendent to lead this work. The role offers the opportunity to influence service design and work in partnership with technology and product colleagues, while maintaining clear clinical accountability.
What We Are Looking For
You must be a GPhC‑registered pharmacist with an independent prescriber annotation and no fitness‑to‑practice conditions. You will need prior experience holding regulatory accountability as a superintendent, deputy superintendent or responsible pharmacist with named governance ownership, including having led through a pharmacy inspection.
You will have launched or materially changed a clinical service and be able to explain its protocol, results and challenges. Experience working with a software team on a clinical system is essential, as is the ability to describe how you shaped and tested a change. You should understand pharmacy costs, Drug Tariff reimbursement, supplier pricing and how private services are priced, with evidence of a pricing or margin decision you have made.
The position requires you to work on site near Cambridge at least four days a week, have the right to work in the UK, hold enhanced DBS clearance and professional indemnity, and be willing to be publicly named on the GPhC register entry for the premises and on the employer’s website. Skilled Worker sponsorship may be available for an exceptional candidate.
Who This Role Suits
This role is suited to an experienced deputy superintendent ready to take on named accountability, or a proven superintendent looking to build clinical services as well as maintain strong governance. You will want to remain an active prescriber, develop colleagues and work constructively with technology teams to make safe growth possible.
Job Location
The pharmacy is based near Cambridge, and the role requires on‑site attendance at least four days a week. Some consultation and governance work can be carried out remotely.
