Quotient is seeking a hands-on strategic leader and operator to lead matrixed project teams composed of representatives from early genomic science, assay development, high-throughput lab, and data science across multiple projects in a scaling biotech environment. The successful candidate will combine scientific and operational rigor with strong interpersonal and matrixed leadership skills, connecting stakeholders and teams, driving execution, and maintaining alignment across a portfolio of research programs. This role reports to the Chief Scientific Officer and sits at the intersection of scientific operations, cross-functional execution, and project effectiveness. The incumbent will be accountable for the successful execution of research programs, and improved integration and collaboration across scientific and operational lab-based teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead a cross-functional matrixed team to develop, execute, and optimize program strategy, timelines, budget, scenario modeling and risk evaluations.
- Proactively identify challenges, critical path issues, and opportunities for acceleration; implement and track action plans.
- Oversee preparation of program content for gating key decisions, governance review, external communications, and partnership diligence.
- Collaborate seamlessly with other project managers to ensure alignment with downstream activities and customers (e.g., target validation and drug discovery).
- Collaborate with Finance on program budget planning, resource management, actuals tracking, and communication of key financial risks.
- Maintain full documentation including program status reports, progress summaries, regulatory submissions, and presentations for internal/external stakeholders.
- Maintain existing tracking infrastructure for internal capability build projects.
- Ensure key stakeholders remain informed and aligned on priorities, timelines, risks, and decisions.
Qualifications
- PhD with 5-8+ years, OR BS/MS with 10+ years in the biopharma industry, preferably in an early therapeutic research or drug discovery setting and ideally with direct experience in the use of genomics or genetics to support drug target identification.
- Minimum 2-5 years of leadership experience with multi-disciplinary project or program teams in an early drug target identification or drug discovery setting.
- Experience in overseeing and integrating wet-lab Research capabilities and computational teams toward complex goals.
- Demonstrated track record guiding cross-functional teams to achieve program goals on aggressive timelines in a matrixed or entrepreneurial biotech environment.
- Integrative leadership style; able to listen and distill complex problems into a clear solution and direction for cross functional teams.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to lead and manage without direct line management control.
- Strong business acumen, understanding of pre-clinical and clinical drug development strategy, and program management best practices.
- Experience managing program budgets and financial reporting in partnership with functional and finance leads.
- Experience in genomics-based drug target identification research and/or platform-based drug discovery.
- Prior success taking programs from research through early clinical development; experience with both small molecules and/or biologics.
- Demonstrated success in working with or for rapidly growing, early-stage biotech companies.
