About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Construction Project Manager to oversee and manage the delivery of complex data centre construction projects in London. This is a senior-level role that requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a proven track record of managing large-scale projects in the construction industry.
As a Senior Construction Project Manager, you will be responsible for driving the successful execution of multiple projects, from planning and procurement to delivery. You will be leading multidisciplinary teams, working closely with clients, contractors, and stakeholders, ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget while maintaining the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership and Strategy:
Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of data centre construction projects, ensuring all aspects are managed effectively and efficiently.
Develop and implement project strategies, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation, to ensure optimal project outcomes.
Act as the main point of contact for clients, providing leadership, advice, and direction throughout the project lifecycle.
Team and Stakeholder Management:
Manage and mentor project teams, including project managers, engineers, and subcontractors, ensuring high levels of performance and collaboration.
Coordinate with all project stakeholders, including clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers, to ensure seamless communication and alignment with project goals.
Oversee the work of external partners, ensuring adherence to contractual obligations and quality standards.
Cost and Budget Control:
Take full responsibility for managing project budgets, ensuring that costs are controlled and monitored throughout the project lifecycle.
Develop and maintain accurate financial forecasts, identifying risks and opportunities, and ensuring that cost-saving initiatives are implemented where possible.
Oversee the preparation of progress reports and project updates, ensuring that key stakeholders are informed of financial and schedule status.
Contract Management and Risk Mitigation:
Manage contracts, including the negotiation and resolution of variations, claims, and disputes, ensuring compliance with relevant contract terms (e.g., NEC, JCT).
Identify and mitigate potential risks, ensuring proactive risk management practices are followed.
Ensure all projects are delivered in full compliance with safety regulations, legal requirements, and industry standards.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
Ensure that all construction work is carried out to the highest quality standards and in full compliance with client specifications and industry regulations.
Conduct regular site visits and inspections, overseeing quality control and resolving any issues that arise.
Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental policies, working closely with safety officers to manage site safety effectively.
Project Reporting and Documentation:
Prepare and present detailed project reports, including financial performance, progress updates, and key milestones, to senior management and clients.
Maintain accurate project documentation, including contracts, change orders, meeting minutes, and compliance records.
Develop and review risk assessments and project schedules, ensuring that deadlines are met and resources are allocated effectively.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 8-12 years of experience in construction project management, with at least 5 years of experience managing large-scale, technically complex projects such as data centres.
Chartered status (MRICS, MCIOB, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
Extensive experience managing the full project lifecycle, from design and planning through to completion and handover.
Proven track record of managing project budgets of £50M+ and delivering projects on time and within budget.
In-depth knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., NEC, JCT) and legal requirements.
Strong proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, Procore) and Microsoft Office Suite.
