We are looking for an experienced media and communications professional to lead our client’s press and communications work across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Sitting within a busy Strategic Communications team, you will own the organisation's regional media presence in the devolved nations, driving proactive campaigns, managing media enquiries and supporting stakeholder engagement across three distinct political and media landscapes.

Key Facts

  • Assignment: temporary, 6 months
  • Gross pay rate range (PAYE): £24.38 – £27.30 per hour (inclusive of rolled-up holiday pay)
  • Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Location: Hybrid working (2 days office / 3 days home) out of any of the offices in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, or Belfast

Key Responsibilities

You will be the first point of contact for media in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, handling inbound enquiries quickly, monitoring news and identifying opportunities to shape the narrative around the organisation's policy priorities. Day-to-day you can expect to draft press releases, prepare spokespeople for broadcast and print interviews, co-ordinate with policy colleagues to keep messaging consistent, and ensure regional activity is reflected across owned digital platforms. You will also contribute to press office operations, including a shared out-of-hours monitoring rota.

Essential requirements:

  • Proven PR or press office experience
  • Strong news judgement and media landscape knowledge across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
  • Confident writer - accurate, fast, compelling
  • Comfortable working under pressure to tight deadlines
  • Skilled at preparing and briefing spokespeople
  • Familiar with media distribution
  • Active understanding of social media platforms
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills

Desirable:

  • Background in health or mental health communications
  • Experience managing reputational or crisis situations
  • Knowledge of the political landscape in the devolved nations
  • Experience working alongside lived experience contributors
  • Previous experience in a membership organisation
