We have a superb career opportunity for a fully qualified accountant, with significant experience in external audit, at manager level. Applicants must possess recent work experience gained from a practice environment.
The primary responsibility of the role is to undertake monitoring of individuals and firms registered in the UK and Ireland to conduct audit work. As part of the Compliance Team, the post holder will be responsible for undertaking monitoring of a portfolio of individuals and firms registered by this professional membership body in the UK to conduct audit work. This involves carrying out monitoring visits to the firms' premises or remotely in accordance with prescribed procedures and producing written reports on those visits on a timely basis.
You will be responsible for organising your own work schedule from a predetermined allocation of monitoring visits in order to meet departmental targets. You will enjoy working independently and having control of your own diary, whilst feeling supported. You will have significant professional autonomy.
Location: This role can be either hybrid based from London OR Glasgow offices, or UK remote-based from home. Some visits to practices (circa. 10% of the time). Travel throughout the UK and Ireland and occasionally overseas may require overnight stays away from home.
The person
The job holder is expected to possess the following attributes:
- Knowledge: a recognised professional accountancy qualification; a minimum of 3 years PQE; in-depth technical knowledge of International Standards on Auditing, Ethical Standards, and the relevant sections of one of the UK professional accountancy body's 'Rulebook'
- Skills: the ability to communicate with experienced, qualified, audit practitioners; the ability to build strong working relationships and manage potentially difficult individuals, while remaining calm, assertive, and professional at all times; have sound judgment and be able to make reasoned and appropriate decisions; have an organised and methodical approach and be able to work to strict deadlines; be self-motivated and able to work independently with the minimum of supervision; be computer literate, with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Experience: significant post-qualification experience at manager level or equivalent in a UK audit practice environment (minimum of 3 years); extensive practical experience of applying relevant standards in a UK setting; an appreciation of the importance of appropriate management controls and corresponding 'best practice' in the UK accountancy profession
The post holder must have a valid UK/Republic of Ireland driving license and access to own vehicle.
