Purpose Senior commercial and product leadership role responsible for the performance, development and optimisation of multiple General Insurance portfolios.

Accountable for profitable growth, margin improvement, competitive positioning, customer outcomes and regulatory compliance.

The role works closely with insurer partners and internal stakeholders to execute portfolio strategy, identify new opportunities, develop propositions and ensure products remain commercially successful, customer-focused and compliant with Consumer Duty and fair value requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial & Portfolio Performance
  • Own portfolio P&L performance, revenue growth, margin improvement and delivery against plan.
  • Analyse pricing, loss ratios, MI and partner performance to identify opportunities and drive corrective action.
  • Optimise product mix, benefits, channels and commercial arrangements to improve profitability while maintaining customer value.
  • Support strategic and annual commercial planning, including forecasting and opportunity assessment.
  • Product & Proposition Development
  • Identify and assess new product and proposition opportunities based on customer, market and commercial insight.
  • Own product roadmaps covering new products, enhancements and innovation.
  • Lead products through the full lifecycle: opportunity identification, business case, design, governance, implementation, launch and in-life optimisation.
  • Define appropriate target markets and ensure propositions are commercially viable, differentiated and customer-centric.
  • Use customer research, market intelligence and feedback to identify opportunities for product improvement and simplification.
  • In-Life Optimisation
  • Drive ongoing improvements to pricing, benefits, costs, customer journeys, acquisition, retention and overall product economics.
  • Monitor product performance and customer outcomes, identifying and implementing improvements.
  • Ensure customer-facing materials and product documentation are clear, accurate and aligned with regulatory and customer understanding requirements.
  • Market & Partner Management
  • Maintain strong understanding of market trends, competitor activity and emerging customer needs.
  • Identify growth opportunities, partnerships and market gaps.
  • Act as senior commercial interface with insurer and underwriting partners.
  • Lead partner performance management, business planning and commercial negotiations, influencing pricing and underwriting strategies where appropriate.
  • Governance & Customer Outcomes
  • Ensure products meet FCA product governance, Consumer Duty and fair value requirements.
  • Contribute commercial insight to product reviews, fair value assessments and outcome testing.
  • Ensure target markets, customer journeys and product documentation appropriately consider vulnerable customers and foreseeable harm.
  • Provide clear commercial input to governance and senior decision-making forums.
  • Leadership & Stakeholder Management
  • Collaborate across Marketing, Digital, Operations, Finance, Pricing, Underwriting, Actuarial, Risk and Compliance.
  • Lead cross-functional delivery of product and commercial initiatives.
  • Represent the portfolios in senior forums and deputise for the relevant Product/Proposition Director when required.

Experience & Skills

  • Strong commercial, product or proposition experience within General Insurance.
  • Proven track record of improving portfolio performance, profitability and customer value.
  • Experience working with insurers, underwriters and actuarial/pricing teams.
  • Strong analytical and P&L management capability.
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience delivering product development, enhancements and in-life optimisation.
  • Practical understanding of FCA product governance, Consumer Duty and fair value requirements.
  • Strong customer-led proposition development and strategic execution skills.
  • Relevant professional qualifications, such as ACII, desirable.
