A solid opportunity for a sharp, detail-driven estimator to join a well-established fire and life-safety business. This is a varied, customer-facing role at the heart of the sales engine — turning enquiries into winning proposals, with real ownership and proper training. An ideal step for someone moving from a technical or on-the-tools background into a commercial role, or for an experienced estimator looking for a fresh challenge.

About Fixfire

Fixfire is a fire safety and compliance services business that values honesty, trust, professionalism, and people who go the extra mile. Operating from offices in Coventry (West Midlands) and Coalville (East Midlands), Fixfire serves an established and diverse customer base — from SMEs through to FTSE 100 companies — across systems including fire alarms, access control, CCTV, and nurse call. You’ll be joining a supportive, high-performance environment where your contribution genuinely makes a difference and where high standards are the norm.

The role

Speed wins orders, and our goal is to deliver exceptional customer service. The Sales Estimator is central to that strategy — responding promptly to enquiries, building a clear plan to win each order, and producing accurate, persuasive proposals that demonstrate a full appreciation of the customer’s needs. Fire alarm systems are inherently technical, and this role requires someone who can understand that complexity and communicate it confidently — articulating technical advantages clearly and credibly, whether in writing or in direct dialogue with customers. Reporting to the Sales Manager and working closely with the Compliance, Service, and Projects Delivery teams, you’ll own the estimating process end to end, from qualifying an opportunity through design and quotation to a clean handover once the order is won. Full training in fire alarm design to BS 5839-1 is provided. This is an excellent role for someone with a technical background looking to move into a commercial environment, or for an experienced estimator wanting to deepen their fire-systems expertise.

Key responsibilities

  • Estimating — Small Works
    • Provide prompt, accurate quotations for inbound enquiries for small works (e.g. minor enhancements to fire or security systems).
    • Analyse post-visit engineer reports and produce timely, well-documented quotations for remedial works.
    • Work with colleagues to qualify opportunities thoroughly and maximise the conversion rate.
  • Estimating — Projects (New Installations, Upgrades & Major Extensions)
    • Qualify and build strategies to win every order, articulating technical value-add features that differentiate Fixfire.
    • Complete detailed, accurate designs and quotations for new enquiries, converting system designs into quantified equipment schedules in line with British Standards.
    • Review project drawings and specifications to ensure fully compliant bids; assess Fire Risk Assessment reports to advise appropriate actions.
    • Produce strategically written proposals, largely from existing templates and customised as required.
  • Proposals & customer engagement
    • Write concise, professional, customer-ready quotations and proposals.
    • Present and follow up proposals confidently with customers, in virtual meetings or over the phone, communicating technical detail fluently.
    • Hand over client instructions efficiently to the Service and Projects Delivery teams.
  • Pipeline, CRM & reporting
    • Keep the CRM and pipeline accurate and up to date, completing tasks on time.
    • Identify opportunities to upsell and cross-sell, and follow up quotations diligently.
    • Prepare sales reports and forecasts as required, and support wider inbound sales activity.

Skills and experience

  • A confident, fluent communicator — comfortable in direct verbal dialogue with customers, able to explain technical concepts clearly and hold your own in a sales conversation.
  • Obsessively detail-oriented — you spot inconsistencies, value proper documentation, and thrive on getting numbers right first time.
  • Highly organised — comfortable handling multiple incoming requests and deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
  • Solutions-minded and proactive — quick to suggest better ways to structure pricing, standardise templates, or streamline estimating tasks.
  • A good level of IT literacy, confident with digital systems and quick to pick up new ones.
  • Reliable and trustworthy, with a strong sense of responsibility for your own work.
  • A genuine team player who helps create a positive, collaborative environment.
  • Broad knowledge of electrical theory is very desirable.
  • Previous experience in fire alarm design to BS 5839-1 is an advantage, though full training will be provided.

Benefits

  • Competitive remuneration package plus bonuses.
  • Company phone and laptop.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Company-funded Private Medical Insurance.
  • Your birthday off as an extra holiday.
  • Ongoing training and funded development opportunities.
  • Varied, rewarding work — our clients span diverse sectors, so no two days are the same.
  • A strong, collaborative team culture in a stable, family-owned group with open communication.
