Fixfast is proud to be the only UK manufacturer of self-drilling screws, leading the way in high-performance fastening solutions for the construction industry. As part of our ongoing investment in British manufacturing, we continue to develop advanced automated production capabilities at our modern headquarters in Aylesford. Our Engineering team supports a range of manufacturing technologies including cold forging, automated production cells and injection moulding processes. These operations rely on well-structured engineering design, accurate CAD models and clear technical documentation to support both new product development and ongoing improvements to manufacturing processes.
An opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer to join the Engineering team. This role will support the creation and maintenance of 3D models, engineering drawings and technical documentation used throughout the business. Reporting to the Head of Project Engineering, the successful candidate will work closely with engineering, production and maintenance teams to support design work, drawing updates and production engineering activities. The role is well suited to candidates looking to build their experience in engineering design and manufacturing support within a structured engineering environment.
Key responsibilities
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using Autodesk Inventor
- Support the development of components, tooling and production equipment designs
- Produce clear manufacturing drawings and technical documentation for internal and external use
- Maintain engineering data, drawing revisions and file structures within Autodesk Vault
- Assist with drawing updates and design changes to support production improvements
- Support production engineering activities including tooling layouts, component modifications and equipment improvements
- Work with engineering and production teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable
- Assist with technical investigations and engineering problem-solving activities
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of drawing standards, documentation and engineering processes
Skills and experience
- A qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience using 3D CAD software
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate technical drawings
- A methodical and organised approach to engineering work
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments
The following experience would be advantageous but is not essential:
- Autodesk Inventor
- Autodesk Vault or other PDM systems
- Exposure to FEA tools such as Nastran or similar analysis software
- Familiarity with manufacturing environments
