The Royal Borough of Greenwich is seeking an experienced Lettings Officer to support the day-to-day operation of the Choice Based Lettings System, nominations to Housing Associations, Mutual Exchanges and Special Schemes.
The role will involve managing the letting and pre-letting of both Council and Housing Association properties, ensuring nominations procedures are followed, responding to correspondence and Members' enquiries, preparing reports and supporting the appeals and case review process.
The successful candidate will need strong housing allocations / lettings experience, good knowledge of housing legislation and council policy, and the ability to assess housing applications, verify applicant circumstances and use IT systems accurately.

This role requires direct housing lettings, allocations or choice based lettings experience, ideally within a local authority or social housing environment. You must be confident assessing housing applications, verifying applicant circumstances, using housing IT systems, handling nominations and applying housing legislation, council policy and procedures. Candidates without relevant housing allocations / lettings / choice based lettings experience are unlikely to be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day Choice Based Lettings activity
- Support nominations to Housing Associations and Special Schemes
- Support Mutual Exchanges where required
- Let and pre-let Council and Housing Association properties efficiently and sensitively
- Ensure nominations procedures are followed correctly
- Deputise for the Senior Lettings Officer when required
- Supervise Lettings Assistants where appropriate
- Prepare reports and support special projects or investigations
- Respond to correspondence, Members' casework and enquiries from services, agencies and senior managers
- Prepare reports for the Case Review Panel
- Administer and monitor the appeals system
- Provide detailed housing advice to the public
- Respond to telephone enquiries and liaise with internal and external agencies
- Provide statistics and information on rehousing activity
- Complete administrative procedures linked to the offer process
- Use Council IT systems accurately to enter, retrieve and update case information
- Assess housing applications and verify applicant circumstances
- Use IT systems to verify applicant details before offers of accommodation
- Identify cases outside policy that may require priority consideration
Essential Experience & Skills
- Experience in housing lettings, allocations or choice based lettings
- Experience working with Council or Housing Association property lettings
- Knowledge of housing legislation, council policy and allocations procedures
- Experience assessing housing applications and verifying applicant circumstances
- Experience using housing IT systems and maintaining accurate case records
- Experience handling nominations to Housing Associations or special schemes
- Ability to provide clear housing advice to the public
- Strong written communication skills for correspondence and reports
- Experience responding to Members' enquiries or complex casework
- Ability to manage appeals, case reviews or priority consideration cases
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to liaise with internal departments, external agencies and senior managers
- Good administrative accuracy and attention to detail
